The Lead Capacity Management Specialist (CMS) is responsible for throughput operations within The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center University Hospital in partnership with nursing and physician leadership, staff nurses, multidisciplinary stakeholders and administrative leadership of the hospital. The CMS enforces hospital policies and initiatives in collaboration with Nursing leaders, physician leaders and administrators, ensuring that barriers and escalations to patient throughput are addressed efficiently. OSUWMC is committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive. Key Responsibilities
Provide real‑time and predictive patient throughput support through collaboration with the Patient Flow Management Supervisors, Case Managers, Physicians, Unit Nursing Leaders and Ancillary Departments. Determine patients that meet discharge suite criteria and have actionable discharge barriers (Lab‑MD‑Imaging‑etc.). Expedite placement of external transfers with necessary stakeholders. Perform daily targeted rounding to alleviate barriers for patient discharges, and review and elevate any barriers to patient discharge. Assist in building and utilizing dashboards (IHIS OSU Capacity Management Dashboard and IHIS ED Track Board, etc.) to highlight delayed or expired expected discharge dates, monitor ICU/PCU and MedEx Boarders, and manage transport pending requests to improve patient flow metrics, access and bed turnaround time. The CMS-Lead directs department staff, medical personnel and other team members to achieve optimal patient throughput, overseeing the business unit’s admissions, transfers and discharges (ADT) for internal and external customers, and adhering to OSUMC and James policies and procedures, including the organization’s compliance program. This role oversees the business unit efforts in managing Admissions, Transfers, and Discharges (ADT) for internal and external customers. Organizational expectations include adherence to OSUMC and James policies and procedures, application of relationship‑based care principles, and alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, values and nursing standards of practice. Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited school. 1 year of inpatient nursing experience required; 5+ years preferred. Job Details
