Position Summary The Broadcast Systems Engineer supports a mission-critical broadcast and IT datacenter serving public broadcasting. This role is responsible for installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of both broadcast/video systems and modern datacenter infrastructure. The engineer supports a hub-and-spoke operational model and participates in a 24x7 on-call rotation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities ·

Provide technical support for CentralCast broadcast, networking, compute, storage, and monitoring systems in a 24x7 environment. ·

Troubleshoot and resolve incidents spanning video workflows, IP transport, virtualization, storage, and supporting services, document findings and corrective actions. ·

Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain broadcast and IT systems supporting CentralCast operations, including hub and spoke deployments. ·

Maintain and continuously improve monitoring and alerting; administer and enhance Zabbix NMS monitoring (hosts/templates/items/triggers, alert routing, and dashboards as applicable). ·

Collaborate with Engineering and Operations to improve system reliability and reduce recurring issues through process improvement, documentation, and automation. ·

Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to service-impacting events in accordance with operational procedures. ·

Communicate clearly with internal teams and customer stakeholders during outages, maintenance, and service events.

Required Qualifications ·

Associate degree in Computer Science, Television Broadcasting/Media/Communications, or equivalent professional experience. ·

Strong working knowledge of modern broadcast/video fundamentals including MPEG-2 / H.264 compression concepts, transport stream fundamentals, and ATSC 1.0 / ATSC 3.0 concepts. ·

Strong IT and datacenter operations knowledge, including: ·

VPN fundamentals and operational support ·

OSPF routing (adjacency, troubleshooting, route propagation/filters) ·

Multicast protocols and concepts: IGMP, PIM, and MSDP ·

Strong troubleshooting, prioritization, and execution skills; ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision. ·

Strong written and verbal communication skills. ·

Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred / Nice to Have ·

Experience with ATSC 3.0 workflows in production environments. ·

Familiarity with Evertz Microsystems, Harmonic, Triveni Digital, and Cisco technologies. ·

Experience operating monitoring platforms (especially Zabbix NMS) in production environments. ·

Proxmox and/or VMware virtualization experience; enterprise storage platform experience (e.g., Quantum).
