The Broadcast Systems Engineer supports a mission‑critical broadcast and IT datacenter serving public broadcasting. This roleis responsible forinstallation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of both broadcast/video systems and modern datacenter infrastructure. The engineer supports a hub-and-spoke operational model andparticipatesin a 24x7 on‑call rotation.
Provide technical support forCentralCastbroadcast, networking,compute, storage, and monitoring systems in a 24x7 environment.
Troubleshoot and resolve incidents spanning video workflows, IP transport, virtualization, storage, and supporting services, document findings and corrective actions.
Install, configure, upgrade, andmaintainbroadcast and IT systems supportingCentralCastoperations, including hub and spoke deployments.
Maintain and continuously improve monitoring and alerting; administer and enhance Zabbix NMS monitoring (hosts/templates/items/triggers, alert routing, and dashboards as applicable).
Collaborate with Engineering and Operations to improve system reliability and reduce recurring issues through process improvement, documentation, and automation.
Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to service‑impacting eventsin accordance withoperational procedures.
Communicate clearly with internal teams and customer stakeholders during outages, maintenance, and service events.
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in Computer Science, Television Broadcasting/Media/Communications, or equivalent professional experience.
Strong working knowledge of modern broadcast/video fundamentals including MPEG-2 / H.264 compression concepts, transport stream fundamentals, and ATSC 1.0 / ATSC 3.0 concepts.
Strong IT and datacenter operations knowledge, including:
VPN fundamentals and operational support
OSPF routing (adjacency, troubleshooting, route propagation/filters)
Multicast protocols and concepts: IGMP, PIM, and MSDP
Strong troubleshooting, prioritization, and execution skills; ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred / Nice to Have
Experience with ATSC 3.0 workflows in production environments.
Familiarity with Evertz Microsystems, Harmonic, Triveni Digital, and Cisco technologies.
Experience operating monitoring platforms (especially Zabbix NMS) in production environments.
Proxmoxand/or VMware virtualization experience; enterprise storage platform experience (e.g., Quantum).

Occasional lifting/moving up to ~30lbs; standing/walking; use of hands/arms.
