Job Summary PR Strategists at Hawke Media are responsible for developing client account growth strategies; identifying and consulting on opportunities to drive efficiencies for complex projects; and building/presenting strategic plans and opportunities for their clients. Additionally, PR Strategists manage day-to-day client relationships and oversee deliverables for an assigned portfolio of clients, managing priorities and client budgets with other team members as needed. A PR Strategist demonstrates success by “solving for their clients” through a combination of proactive communications and the ongoing delivery of impeccable work that drives results. The Strategist effectively leads their client team, fostering collaboration, innovation and growth. Qualifications Job Responsibilities Lead day-to-day interactions and regularly scheduled meetings with clients, working with other Hawke team members to be responsive to clients and communicate in a timely manner Manage increased visibility with media and public relations activity to help build our clients’ brand awareness and thought leadership Develop and plan client PR strategy, as well as tactical executions, that reflect a keen understanding of the client’s business, goals, communications priorities, and budget Work with the client to set S.M.A.R.T. PR goals and meet or exceed them to foster client demand for the agency’s services Research and provide recommendations on the topics and issues our clients face Proactively reach out to clients to highlight key trends in the market to inform their business as well as our work Perform creative ideation and present new opportunities to clients as they arise Lead and inspire team, comprised of senior leaders, specialists, and writers, in the development and delivery of client deliverables to ensure all work addresses client brand messaging and objectives effectively Have a keen understanding of PR strategies and trends across multiple industries to meaningfully advise clients Take ownership and pride in delivering measurable results that impact our client businesses by monitoring progress toward objectives, analyzing results, and making adjustments to the plan to meet goals or address new opportunities Manage client budgets to prioritize work and stay on budget as well as work with agency leadership to adjust budget and current plans when necessary Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, training them on our processes, and build trust quickly Manage client expectations through clear and consistent communications, sharing updates and wins, and actively working to surprise and delight them Actively develop knowledge of your client’s industries and markets as well as PR best practices Become knowledgeable of the agency’s technology platforms, such as media databases, project management tools, coverage monitoring software and more, and be comfortable using them regularly and effectively Actively contribute to the agency’s growth and development by supporting marketing efforts, team-building and mentorship, special committee work, and operations Participate in new business development and client renewal including ideation, proposal review, and conversations with prospective clients Develop a deep knowledge of the products and services offered to help identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities for members of our client family Well-versed in consumer media PR, while also conversant in trade media PR, to ensure you are able to manage realistic client goals, identify opportunities and address client needs, or pull in specialists as needed Job Skills Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required 2+ years of experience managing and leading clients or an internal team(s), agency experience is a plus Strong knowledge of PR strategies and tactics Strong communication and professional writing skills, particularly strategic plans and client communications with a keen eye for identifying and sharing compelling stories Ability to establish priorities based on client goals and work with the client to achieve them Ability to juggle multiple client accounts and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, virtual work environment Experience working in a project management system and with PR platforms (e.g., Cision, Google Analytics, social media) Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build consensus, foster collaboration, understand the bigger picture and take responsibility Savviness and awareness of current happenings that matter in education A proven problem-solver, crisis-handler, and maker of quick decisions, even without adequate information Experience writing contributed articles is a plus Experience in consumer PR, b2b and the education/ed-tech field is a plus 30-60-90 Day Plan 30 Days Complete onboarding into Hawke systems: Slack, project management tools, Cision media database, coverage monitoring platforms, reporting templates, and SOPs Deep dive into assigned client accounts: business model, industry landscape, past PR performance, messaging, and current S.M.A.R.T. goals Shadow senior PR Strategists on client calls, media pitching, strategy development, and reporting Begin supporting 1–2 accounts with media research, pitch drafting, contributed article ideation, and coverage tracking Develop familiarity with client industries and key media targets 60 Days Take primary ownership of 3–4 small-to-mid-sized client accounts Lead weekly/bi-weekly PR client calls with senior strategist support as needed Independently manage media outreach, pitch calendars, reporting, and day-to-day client communication Develop and present updated PR strategies aligned to client goals and budgets Collaborate cross-functionally with Creative, Strategy, and Paid teams on integrated initiatives 90 Days Fully own 4–6 client accounts, managing strategy, execution, timelines, and budgets independently Lead all PR client communications and relationship management with confidence Proactively identify growth, media, and thought leadership opportunities and present strategic recommendations Contribute to renewals, and cross-sell opportunities Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire.
