Develops, maintains, and chairs the Patient Safety Council, including maintaining the Patient Safety Dashboard and presenting it to QIC. Conducts, documents, and maintains Failure Mode Event Analysis (FMEA) as required for regulatory standards. Provides oversight for risk management event analysis, loss control initiative implementation, risk management data management, and internal claims management program. Ensures risk management regulatory compliance with federal and accreditation entities such as CMS and TJC. Reviews, investigates, and resolves patient complaints and grievances to ensure regulatory compliance. Serves as a risk management resource to departmental staff, hospital staff, physicians, and other allied health professionals. Reports risk management data routinely to facility administration and Board of Directors as outlined in the risk management program. Coordinates and instructs business office personnel to suspend billing pending claim investigation and authorizes administrative adjustments if necessary. Directs departmental functions utilizing key performance indicators to identify and reduce organizational risk. Identifies known and potential exposures to accidental loss on an ongoing basis. Directs and coordinates the claim management program to align with risk management operations and fairly negotiates resolution of claims within established settlement authority. Gathers underwriting information and insurance specifications at the time of renewal for risk management. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive experience and demonstrated successes in the field of Health Care and Patient Safety. Skilled in the identification and prevention of potential areas of risk/patient safety, including complaint resolution. Extensive experience in the investigation and analysis of incidents and claims. Excellent organizational, planning, research, analytical, and presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively – both verbally and in writing. Ability and willingness to interact in a professional manner with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, patients’ families, visitors, and attorneys, especially under stressful conditions. Knowledge and ability to work with personal computers, software, and special applications, such as Cerner, Origami, Microsoft Office (WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, etc). Ability and willingness to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to multi-task by overseeing Patient Safety and Risk Management duties as assigned. Basic knowledge and ability to work with personal computers and software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Risk Management software applications. Lean Healthcare or Six Sigma training preferred. Just Culture training preferred. Education
