Position Duties & Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership & Vision

Facilitate the development and implementation of instructional best practices to ensure student success in elementary education.

Assist in the formal evaluation process, conduct observations, post‑conferences, and promote professional growth through methodology and technique coaching.

Assist in setting long‑ and short‑term teacher goals and plan in‑service training programs to enhance staff development.

Participate in developing programs of study consistent with state mandates and facilitate faculty, grade‑level, and curriculum development meetings.

Nurture a school culture conducive to learning and professional development while assisting in the orientation and supervision of new teachers and substitutes.

Management and Control

Assist with school operations, including preparation for opening and closing, and develop the master schedule.

Assist with the administration, evaluation, and supervision of all school staff and communicate personnel issues to the Principal.

Interpret and clarify local and district‑wide policies, ensuring strict compliance and completing required reports.

Inspect the building for physical damages and coordinate emergency response activities, including fire, civil defense, and bus drills.

Assist with the annual budget and student accounts; direct special duty assignments for teachers and support staff.

Serve as primary liaison for before/after school programs, transportation, food services, and co‑curricular activities.

Student Management & Environment

Assume responsibility for school disciplinary functions and oversee student behavior plans and restorative practices in collaboration with the Principal.

Establish and monitor attendance procedures in collaboration with the Principal.

Supervise student assembly programs, drama, speech, and music productions to ensure a well‑rounded school environment.

Community & Ethical Leadership

Assist in implementing a system of parent conferences and reports regarding student progress and the overall school program.

Prepare and circulate bulletins and notices on instructional matters and assist in general school‑wide public relations.

Participate in P.T.O. meetings and other community activities to mobilize resources and respond to diverse community interests.

Act within the larger legal and cultural context of the district, ensuring all actions comply with state mandates and SAU 70 objectives.

Evaluation

Performance of duty responsibilities will be reviewed annually by the Building Principal.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience

Master’s Degree or equivalent in administration and supervision, or evidence of working toward such.

Minimum of three (3) years experience as a successful teacher; five (5) years preferred.

Preferred: supervisory, administration, and/or research experience in education.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to plan, direct, evaluate, control, and manage the school’s activities of students, teachers, and other personnel.

Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Remain calm in difficult situations.

Successfully multi‑task within the role.

Accurately and expeditiously type correspondence, reports, and memoranda according to standard business practices.

Communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing.

Understand and follow oral and written policies, procedures and instructions.

Operate a personal computer using standard or customized software appropriate to the assigned tasks.

Licensure and Certification Requirements

Holds, has held, or is eligible for a valid New Hampshire educator certificate with an endorsement in a teaching area.

Holds a valid New Hampshire certificate as Principal or Statement of Eligibility.

Other Considerations and Requirements The physical demands of an Associate Principal are minimal. Occasional lifting is required; employee is typically able to sit and stand as needed.
