Senior Electrician, Housing
Facilities Management (FM) at the University of Virginia has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrician who supports FM's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities in Housing. The Housing Zone provides facilities services to Housing and Residential Life (HRL) properties consisting of 8,000 beds distributed through 187 buildings, encompassing over 3 million square feet of occupied residential space. Our portfolio includes single-family homes, traditional residence halls, and apartments. Senior Electricians perform installation, repair, and maintenance trade work on electrical systems and equipment in buildings, including emergency backup systems, alarms, and life-support equipment. Senior Electricians are distinguished by a depth of knowledge and experience. They receive only limited supervision and provide work site guidance to electricians. Responsibilities: Assume responsibility for laying out and running larger and more complex jobs involving more than one mechanic. Assist supervisor in coordinating daily assignments among different jobs. Perform preventative maintenance repairs and emergency maintenance on electrical equipment. Respond to emergency requests. Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate. Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code, and The Joint Commission. Specify, estimate, and install equipment, wiring, and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements. Provide direct guidance and mentorship to lower-level electricians. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Required Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: Seven years of experience. Licensure: Journey or Master level electrical license. Compensation: The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $29 - $34 per hour ($60,320 - $70,720 Annually), commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time non-exempt position with UVA benefits.
