The Pharmacy Purchasing Agent reviews and supports the purchasing and inventory functions of the pharmacy by acting as a liaison between the pharmacy and the distributor. Working under limited supervision, this role ensures that the pharmacy purchases pharmaceuticals, supplies, and equipment within a constrained budget, minimizing costs, as well as meets quality standards.


Essential Job Function

  • Supports the maintenance of accurate documentation of the pharmacy's inventory and identifies pharmacy drugs and supplies that need to be ordered.
  • Assists in the review of the purchasing needs of both inpatient and outpatient pharmacies, coordinating inventory restock and purchasing to not exceed budget.
  • Records the cost of orders against the pharmacy department's budget to manage expenses.
  • Escalates urgent purchasing needs to leader to ensure that pharmacy inventory needs are met.
  • Liaises with manufacturer's representatives to obtain important drug or equipment information that will inform buying decisions.
  • Processes invoices and physically performs inventory reconciliation to ensure medical drugs and supplies have been accurately delivered.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.


Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent


Experience

  • Required: 7 years


Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Required: Certified Pharmacy Technician
