Recreation Leader

Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Leader is responsible for the daily duties at the recreation center. This position is responsible for assisting patrons, maintaining a clean appearance at the recreation center, and being knowledgeable of all programs and activities. This position is responsible for providing the highest level of customer service in all personal interactions with customers. Examples of duties include: Monitoring activities at the recreation center, answering phones, checking out equipment, managing customer requests, and assisting patrons. Communicating effectively and courteously with customers and staff in person, in writing or telephone. Assisting in maintaining daily stats on facility usage/program participation. Setting up and tearing down volleyball poles and nets; setting up and tearing down wallyball net; setting up tables and chairs; raising and lowering basketball goals; setting up and taking down score clock. Assisting supervisor and coordinators with other administrative duties and projects as assigned. Assisting with planning and implementing special activities and programs at the recreation center. Assisting with community-wide special events. Preparing incident/accident/damage reports. Enrolling patrons in programs, registering them for memberships and annual passes, and reserving fields and pavilions. Attending monthly in-service. Must have a flexible schedule to be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays (as necessary). This position is scheduled for 15-19 hours per week, with work mainly in the evenings and on weekends. Performing light housekeeping and maintenance duties, including sanitization of the facility to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all patrons and staff. Ability to carry, push, pull, lift or hold up to 60 lbs. of equipment or furniture. Maybe required to work in extreme weather conditions for activities and events. Sitting for extended periods of time at desk using the computer preparing reports, schedules, flyers, etc. Typical qualifications include: Ability to use effective verbal and written communication skills with staff and public, as well as show effective leadership. Ability to use good judgment in handling customer requests, altercations and emergencies. Ability to be creative, a self-starter, and work with minimum supervision. Knowledge of weight training skills; general knowledge of rules for various games and activities. Ability to perform light maintenance on game tables and equipment as needed. Working knowledge of computer systems, software and copiers. Preferred: Working knowledge of Amilia Smart Rec, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Canva and/or other various software applications. Education and experience: Must be at least 16 years of age. High School diploma or GED preferred. Recreation background preferred. CPR/1st Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment. This position is not eligible for benefits.
