Recreation Center Assistant
The purpose of this position is to assist in planning, maintaining, and teaching recreation activities for the City of Spartanburg and is responsible for opening and closing recreation centers. Examples of duties include: Planning, assisting, and supervising recreation programs, activities, sports, and athletic programs for the youth, families, and community. Supervising the playing of games at the center. Setting up athletic and class equipment. Inspecting equipment for condition and safety. Issuing center equipment and maintaining proper inventories. Monitoring equipment use at the recreation center. Supervising, managing, and monitoring center participants. Assisting in planning, scheduling, and implementing activities and events. Setting up and taking down tables and chairs. Ensuring players and attendees adhere to center policies. Maintaining the recreation center and coordinating day-to-day activities. Greeting program participants and answering questions regarding center programs. Following and implementing standard operating policies and procedures for recreational facilities. Receiving and handling complaints, providing assistance, information, and solutions as needed. Coordinating youth mentoring, high school graduation, and college navigation activities. Serving as an academic liaison with school districts. Providing outreach, referral services, and technical assistance to the youth population. Assisting in the monitoring and compliance requirements related to youth development activities. Typical qualifications include: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency. Two (2) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours. Pay depends upon experience and qualifications. Starting salary is $36,212.80 annually. The City of Spartanburg provides a very competitive benefits package to include medical, dental, vision, disability, life benefits through the SC State Health Plan, and access to a free onsite health clinic. Retirement through the SC State Retirement System (employee contributes 9% and the City contributes 18.56% / PORS: police/fire employees contribute 9.75% and City contributes 21.24%).
