
E-Billing Appeals Specialist

A respected downtown Los Angeles law firm is seeking an experienced E‑Billing Appeals Specialist to join its Finance team. This role reports directly to the Director of Finance and works collaboratively with billing and collections teams to support high‑volume billing operations and meet monthly targets. The ideal candidate brings strong legal billing expertise, attention to detail, and experience managing e‑billing platforms and appeals processes in a fast‑paced law firm environment.
Key Responsibilities
Process time entry and billing for hourly, flat‑fee, and contingency matters
Prepare, review, and finalize prebills and client invoices
Ensure compliance with client‑specific billing guidelines (LEDES, UTBMS codes)
Review narratives, correct time entry errors, and ensure rate accuracy
Handle billing adjustments, write‑offs, and reconcile discrepancies
Support month‑end billing cycles and reporting
Submit invoices through e‑billing platforms (e.g., CounselLink, Legal Tracker, Serengeti)
Track, manage, and submit billing appeals in accordance with client guidelines
Maintain timekeeper status, billing rates, budgets, and user profiles
Review and implement outside counsel guidelines within billing systems
Assist with accounts receivable processes, including applying client payments
Support collections efforts and client follow‑up as needed
Work with general ledger summaries and billing reports
Maintain confidentiality of financial and client data
Work closely with attorneys, legal assistants, and finance team members
Clearly communicate billing issues and resolve discrepancies
Provide support and guidance on billing‑related inquiries
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of legal billing experience in a law firm environment
Experience with e‑billing platforms and appeals tracking/submission required
Proficiency in Aderant/Sierra or similar systems (Elite 3E, Elite Enterprise, ProLaw, etc.) is required
Strong understanding of legal billing rules, client guidelines, and compliance requirements
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage high‑volume billing in a deadline‑driven environment
Finance or Accounting degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
