The Social Media intern produces content creation for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and X, collaborating with the newsroom and NewsdayTV.

The ideal intern…

Will be expected to help assist in the overall engagement and sourcing across all social platforms with an emphasis on growing our Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok pages

Must be proficient in content creation and video editing for a social-first, vertical video strategy to post on Reels, TikTok, and Shorts

Must be proficient in editing apps such as Canva, Adobe Express, Capcut, etc.

Helps with optimizing videos for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube with keyword research and platform search strategy

Lives and breathes social media and industry trends/able to adapt to the ever-changing algorithms

Community engagement with promoting content in Facebook groups, etc.

Must be comfortable being on camera and going out in the field for content creation

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or aspiring to have one; newsroom experience is a huge plus

Expert user of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X and Facebook

Exceptionally strong headline writing

Knows how to engage with a local audience, such as through Facebook Groups, community groups, etc.

Must be comfortable and articulate on camera in both live and prepared settings

Sharp writing skills and solid copy-editing skills

Strong analytical skills to respond to data in real time and help guide our social media strategy

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work independently

Ability to work a flexible and varied schedule

Reliable transportation to and from various locations across Long Island

Physical Requirements

Must possess a driver’s license in good standing and a means to travel to various locations throughout Long Island.
