General Description The
Utilities Superintendent
is responsible for overseeing
multiple underground utility projects , including the installation of
water, sewer, and storm drainage systems . This role provides
leadership, project coordination, and quality control
to ensure projects are completed
on time, within budget, and in compliance with all regulations . The Utilities Superintendent works closely with
Project Managers, Foremen, and Inspectors
to direct field operations and maintain project success.
Key Duties
Supervise all phases of
utility installation projects , ensuring compliance with project plans and specifications.
Coordinate daily operations across
multiple crews , including Foremen and field personnel.
Work with
engineers, inspectors, and regulatory agencies
to ensure quality and compliance.
Monitor project schedules, adjust work plans as necessary, and ensure deadlines are met.
Quality Control & Compliance
Ensure
proper installation techniques
for water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.
Conduct
job site inspections
to verify compliance with industry standards and local regulations.
Oversee
testing procedures
to confirm system integrity before final approvals.
Budget & Resource Management
Work with Project Managers to
track costs, labor hours, and material usage .
Assist in procurement and inventory management for materials and equipment.
Maintain
accurate records of work completed, change orders, and project adjustments .
Safety & Training
Enforce
OSHA regulations and company safety policies
at all job sites.
Conduct
regular safety meetings, job site audits, and crew training .
Identify and address
potential hazards or safety violations immediately .
Communication & Reporting
Provide
regular project updates to division leadership and project managers .
Work closely with subcontractors and inspectors to ensure seamless project execution.
Maintain documentation for
job progress, inspections, testing results, and equipment usage .
Qualification Requirements Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required ; technical training preferred.
5+ years of experience
in underground utility installation, with at least
2+ years in a leadership role .
Strong knowledge of
trenching, pipe installation, compaction, and testing procedures .
Ability to
read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications .
Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
Proficiency in
scheduling, budgeting, and reporting
for utility projects.
Working knowledge of
construction equipment used in underground utility installation .
Physical Demands
Frequent walking, standing, and bending
on active job sites.
Ability to
lift up to 50 lbs regularly
and
up to 100 lbs with assistance .
Work in
various weather conditions, trenches, and confined spaces .
Work is performed
outdoors in all weather conditions .
Regular exposure to
construction noise, dust, and heavy machinery .
Frequent interaction with
field crews, project managers, and inspectors .
