Job Description

The Mechanical Estimator role will be managing mechanical estimates for large scale projects, fabrication and maintenance opportunities. They will be responsible for complete, accurate, and well-organized estimates supported by material pricing data and subcontractor input. Primary focus will be piping, with a secondary focus on structural and boilermaker scopes.

Summary

Perform piping estimates to support the onsite fabrication shop and capital projects. Support the maintenance operations with various IW, PF and BM estimates. Interact with vendors to solicit competitive material and subcontractor pricing. Organize and present estimates to leadership demonstrating a complete and competitive proposal. Interact with field management on constructability and schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities

Receive, organize and coordinate opportunities. Review bid documents for level of completeness, engage with clients on gaps in bid information, and address risks to leadership associated with the completeness of the bid information. Attend/participate with bid meetings/site walkthroughs to verify scope documents. Responsible for the set-up of the estimate, estimate preparation schedule, responsibility matrix, and coordinate with other team members. Ensure pricing within the estimate is complete and accurate, reflective of current labor, material, and equipment pricing. Discuss with leadership any value engineering, alternates or option pricing. Work with leadership to identify key project leadership positions and availability of resources. Prepare and lead internal estimate review meetings. Prepare the assembly of bid documents for submittal to the client. Verify adherence to safety, ethics, and compliance, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control requirements are met. Prepare bid and proposal documents including clarifications, exceptions, exclusions and other commercial terms as required. Responsible for submitting bids and budgets by the specified deadlines. Mentoring and assist with career development of other team members. Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction. Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management or other equivalent construction related experience. Minimum 2 years of estimating experience or 5+ years of applicable experience in the mechanical construction industry.

Skills and Abilities

Must have conceptual ability to work with minimum information and quickly develop an understanding of owner/architect requirements. Familiarity with operating procedures and methods of other departments - Field Operations, Central Engineering, Procurement, Accounting, etc. Strong computer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft Suite of programs required. Experience with HCSS or similar estimating software preferred. Complete knowledge of the estimating documents and the ability to provide accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of the documents. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to lead estimates for multiple projects at the same time with proven time management skills and meeting deadlines. Strong work ethic to complete tasks in a complete and high-quality manner. Ability to assure responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others.
