ABOUT
We are representing a well-established, independent customs brokerage and freight forwarding firm with operations across the U.S. East Coast and a licensed brokerage division that has been processing entries through Newark since 1994. With a client base spanning retail, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals, they handle a high volume of both air and ocean import shipments daily through Newark Liberty International Airport and the Port of New York and New Jersey. Their customs team is experienced, tight-knit, and well-supported by a licensed broker on-site. Their Cranford office serves as their primary brokerage hub for New Jersey operations. The team currently has five entry writers and they are adding one more to keep pace with volume growth across several recently onboarded accounts. This is a stable, full-time, on-site role with a clear path to senior entry writer and supervisor level for the right person. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and submit accurate customs entries for air and ocean import shipments in compliance with U.S. CBP regulations File ISF filings in a timely manner ahead of vessel departure deadlines Classify goods accurately using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) Identify and apply correct PGA and OGA requirements including FDA, USDA, EPA, and Fish and Wildlife where applicable Coordinate with overseas agents, steamship lines, airlines, and truckers to ensure timely cargo release and delivery Communicate with importers directly to obtain missing documentation and resolve holds, exams, or compliance issues Process Post Summary Corrections, protests, and prior disclosures as required Maintain accurate entry records in CargoWise and ensure all files are audit-ready WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Minimum 2 years of hands-on customs entry writing experience in a licensed brokerage or freight forwarding environment Strong working knowledge of HTSUS classification, valuation rules, and CBP entry procedures Practical experience filing entries in ACE and handling PGA cargo for agencies including FDA and USDA Familiarity with CargoWise or a comparable customs brokerage platform Understanding of ISF requirements and the consequences of late or inaccurate filings Detail-oriented, accurate under pressure, and capable of managing a high volume of entries simultaneously Based in or commutable to Cranford, NJ for a full-time on-site role WHAT'S ON OFFER
