Licensed Customs Broker

Altius Talent is working with a growing international freight forwarder in the Chicago O’Hare area that is looking to hire a Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) to join their expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced customs professional who enjoys being hands-on with entries while also supporting compliance, mentoring team members, and helping strengthen the brokerage function within a busy forwarding environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, review, and submit U.S. Customs entries (A–Z processing) in compliance with CBP regulations
Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and ensure accurate duty calculation
Manage PGA filings including FDA, USDA, EPA, DOT and other government agency requirements
Review and approve entries prepared by entry writers to ensure compliance and accuracy
Maintain strong working relationships with U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) and other regulatory bodies
Provide guidance and support to the customs team, helping develop best practices and operational efficiency
Handle post-entry corrections, protests, and audits when required
Work closely with operations teams across air and ocean freight shipments to ensure smooth clearance and delivery
Monitor regulatory updates and ensure internal processes remain compliant with U.S. import regulations
Requirements
Minimum 5+ years of experience within customs brokerage or freight forwarding environments
Strong knowledge of HTS classification, customs regulations, and PGA requirements
Experience with CargoWise or other brokerage systems preferred
Ability to manage multiple entries and shipments in a fast-paced logistics environment
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with operations and clients
