About the Job As the Purchasing Agent, you will be responsible for sourcing and securing high-quality feed ingredients, nutritional additives and related materials to meet distribution needs. This position requires a strong understanding of vendor management, market trends, industry regulations and pricing.
Responsibilities
Develops, leads, and executes purchasing strategies
Monitors market conditions and commodity pricing to inform purchasing decisions and mitigate risk
Maintains relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent quality and supply
Coordinates with the dispatch and warehouse teams to manage inbound shipments
Maintains accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier performance
Ensures compliance with industry regulations and internal quality standards
Participates in strategic sourcing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
Analyzes inventory levels and forecasts demand to prevent shortages or overstock situations
Supports sustainability and traceability initiatives related to sourcing
Ability to back up other Purchasing Agents in their absence
Maintains a clean, safe working environment
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in agricultural field and/or two years of equivalent experience is required
Proficiency with ERP systems for managing purchase orders, inventory and supplier data
Ability to gather and analyze data, negotiate and network
Possess resourcefulness in finding solutions to problems
Strong leadership abilities
Attend job related/industry professional development meetings
Occasional travel may be required, as needed
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background investigation
