About The Job The Senior Benefits Specialist plays a key role in designing, administering and optimizing the employee benefit, wellness and leave programs for multiple companies under the Stutsman brand. The role combines administration and strategic support to ensure benefit offerings are competitive, compliant and aligned with organizational goals. The ideal candidate has several years of experience in this field with a strong attention to detail, is service driven and comfortable navigating complex benefit inquiries with confidence and clarity. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to benefits administration and operations including new hire, life event and annual open enrollment processes, employee support and communication, compliance audits and reporting, vendor and program management, strategic support and an emphasis on continuous improvement.
This position reports to the Hills, Iowa office daily.
Responsibilities
Oversee the administration of all health, welfare, retirement and leave programs
Manage daily benefit operations including new enrollments, life‑event changes and/or terminations
Ensure timely and accurate transmission of ongoing EDI benefit files to vendors
Administer the company sponsored wellness program including education, communication, compliance and timely updates through proactive vendor coordination
Lead the full annual open enrollment process including planning, testing, communicating and execution while ensuring all deadlines are met
Process benefit invoices and vendor reconciliations timely and accurately
Communicate benefit‑related changes to the Payroll Specialist promptly to ensure correct payroll processing
Facilitate benefit orientations and develop clear, engaging materials to support ongoing employee education
Provide employees with ongoing support regarding benefit questions, claims concerns, and plan details
Maintain full compliance of ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA and all other applicable benefit regulations
Manage all required filings and audits including but not limited to worker's compensation, BLS, 401K, ACA, CMS, CAA, DOL, and EEO reporting
Analyze benefit utilization, cost trends, and employee feedback to recommend enhancements to the overall benefit offering
Collaborate closely with the HR team in recruiting and payroll to ensure accurate and seamless benefit administration
Serve as a backup the Payroll Specialist when needed
Maintain a clean, safe working environment
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
At least 5 years of experience in benefit administration
Minimum of 5 years knowledge of workers compensation reporting and 401k audits
Proven knowledge of employer-sponsored wellness programs, benefit regulations and compliance requirements
Experience navigating multi-state and/or multi-company compliance
Hands‑on experience with HRIS and benefit administration systems; familiarity with Paycor is a plus
Strong communication, analytical and problem solving capabilities
Demonstrated leadership skills
Ability to travel occasionally, as business needs arise
Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license
Ability to successfully complete a pre‑employment drug screen and background investigation
