What You'll Be Doing
Wake County Facilities, Design & Construction is looking for a Real Estate Specialist with experience in property acquisition, leasing, disposition of surplus properties, conveyance and acquisition of easements, rights‑of‑way, and other property rights. In this role, you will provide comprehensive real‑estate management for Wake County by supporting our department’s projects that span from building renovations and site improvements to large, complicated buildings and campus site development projects.
Essential Functions
Provide comprehensive real‑estate management services for Wake County land assets, including property acquisition, leasing, and disposition of surplus county properties in accordance with NC General Statutes and conveyance and acquisition of easements, rights‑of‑way, and other property rights for the county.
Provide assistance to the Wake County Public School System with acquisitions of property for schools and support other Wake County departments such as Parks and Open Space, Housing and Community Revitalization, and Solid Waste for land acquisition directly related to their activities.
Acquire and lease property as required to support the capital program and various departments.
Review conveyance of easements, rights‑of‑way, and other property interests for county property.
Perform the disposition of county‑owned surplus property.
Support miscellaneous county land‑rights activities for various departments.
Assist the County Attorney’s Office in preparing legal documents related to transactions.
Document and maintain a comprehensive electronic database of all county real‑estate assets.
Be available for occasional after‑hour board meetings, open‑house presentations, or other community engagement activities.
About Our Team Facilities Design & Construction manages the planning, design, and construction of all capital improvement projects undertaken by Wake County Government. It also manages all real estate and land‑rights issues, acting as a bridge between the County Manager’s Office, the public, design consultants, and construction contractors. The team coordinates with other local governments, internal departments, and private non‑profit groups, fostering a culture of motivation, multitasking, and collaboration.
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or Construction Management.
Three years of experience in facilities project management or property acquisition.
Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
Equivalent education and experience are accepted.

Bachelor’s in Real Estate, Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or a comparable field.
Eight or more years of experience as a Real Estate Agent, Broker, or Right‑of‑Way Agent.
Experience negotiating acquisitions and leases, and deriving equitable terms of agreement.
Licensed Real Estate Broker or Certified Right‑of‑Way Agent.
Notary Public Certification.

Familiarity with the local real‑estate market, including availability, values, and locations.
Ability to identify, evaluate, and analyze properties for specific uses.
Ability to evaluate a property’s value using appraisals, tax information, and physical characteristics to determine suitability.
Knowledge and familiarity with laws, regulations, and procedures for acquisition and disposition of property.
Understanding of real‑estate data, with the ability to analyze trends and make appropriate recommendations.
Ability to present information clearly in public meetings to elected officials, county management, and staff.

Hiring Range: $95,000.00 – $110,000.00
Market Range: $75,108.00 – $135,202.00
