Job Title: Mechanical Designer
We are seeking a mid‑level Mechanical Design Technician to support new product development and manufacturing activities for a local smart building technology company. This role will play a hands‑on part in building, testing, and refining components and assemblies during active manufacturing and launch phases. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical mindset, solid CAD experience (preferably Creo), and enjoys supporting both design and testing efforts in a fast‑paced engineering environment.
Responsibilities
Support testing of products, including setting up and breaking down test fixtures.
Execute mechanical and functional tests according to engineering plans.
Assist with prototyping and iterative design validation.
Document test results and report findings to engineering teams.
Create and modify detailed CAD models and drawings for components and assemblies (sheet metal, plastic parts, etc.).
Support component and assembly design with consideration for design for assembly and manufacturability.
Assist with the design of manufacturing tooling for major projects.
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and development engineers on new product development and launch initiatives.
Provide hands‑on support while shades are actively being manufactured.
Assist engineering teams during tooling build, validation, and refinement.
Support semi‑autonomous engineering groups responsible for standard and custom tooling.
Essential Skills
Experience using CAD software for mechanical design (Creo preferred).
Experience with 3D modeling and detailed engineering drawings.
Working knowledge of component and assembly design.
Familiarity with machining, tooling, and design for assembly.
Ability to support hands‑on testing and prototyping activities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Creo (strongly preferred).
Background in SolidWorks or other CAD platforms (transferable skills accepted).
Exposure to AutoCAD (plus, not required).
Familiarity with GD&T (nice to have, not required).
Associate’s degree preferred (degree not required).
Work Environment The position is onsite at the campus, primarily within a mechanical engineering‑focused team. It involves significant engagement in new product development, product launch projects, and heavy involvement in manufacturing tooling and production support for a major ongoing initiative. Employees can expect a hands‑on environment with exposure to both development and electrical engineering.
Job Type & Location Contract position based out of Coopersburg, PA.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00–$40.00/hr.
