JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Director of Athletics
Supervisor: Vice President for Student Engagement and Athletics
Status: Full-time, 12 months, Exempt
Summary Under the direction of the Vice President for Student Engagement and Athletics, is responsible for the organization and implementation of the College's NCAA Division II athletic programs.
Qualifications Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or four – ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and administer the institution’s athletic programs.
Develop and monitor the athletic budget.
Oversee the recruitment and selection of coaches.
Supervise and evaluate coaches and support staff; make determination of staff development needs, and make recommendations for hire.
Oversee the procedures and documentation for ensuring academic eligibility for all athletics in accordance with rules, supervise and sanction the medical and insurance clearance for each student‑athlete.
Oversee and ensure program compliance with all applicable regulations and laws to include the preparation of all documents related to the College’s participation in the sport’s programs at the national, state and local levels.
Implement and disseminate pertinent information on Conference and NCAA rules and regulations, including compliance with Title V and Title IX regulations.
Maintain records and files related to individual and team participation.
Provide orientation and training to coaches and student‑athletes.
Directs preparation and dissemination of publicity to promote athletic events.
Plans and coordinates activities of coaching staff, including recruitment goals.
Plans and schedules sports events, and oversees ticket sales and activities. Certifies reports of income produced from ticket sales.
Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in Baseball, Cross Country, Track, Softball, Basketball, Soccer, Lacrosse, Cheer, Sports Communications and Athletic Training. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also, directly supervises non‑supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Assist and coordinate fundraising efforts with the Vice President for Advancement.
Oversee game operations for all home events including NCAA Regional events.
Collaborate with institutional colleagues to support College priorities, including academic success, retention, prevention of alcohol/drug use and sexual violence and life skills programing.
