About the role An AI Product Owner bridges the gap between business strategy and AI development, acting as the primary owner of the product backlog for AI-driven solutions. Unlike a traditional Product Owner, this role requires specialized knowledge of machine learning, data quality, and model performance to ensure AI applications are accurate, ethical, and valuable.
In this role you will
Product Strategy & Roadmap:
Define the vision and roadmap for AI features (e.g., recommendation engines, chatbots) that align with business goals.
Backlog Management:
Define, prioritize, and maintain the AI product backlog, creating actionable user stories and acceptance criteria based on experimental data.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Serve as the central hub between stakeholders, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and designers, facilitating technical understanding and business feasibility.
Model Performance & Evaluation:
Monitor AI model performance post-launch, tracking KPIs such as accuracy, false-positive rates, automation rates, and cost-per-transaction.
Data & Ethical Governance:
Ensure data quality and address ethical concerns, such as bias mitigation, data privacy, and compliance with regulations like GDPR or the EU AI Act.
Agile Delivery:
Participate in all Scrum ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives) to guide the delivery team.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience:
3–5+ years in a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role, with direct experience in AI, Machine Learning, or data science projects.
AI Acumen:
Understanding of LLMs, Generative AI, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and MLOps to make informed technical trade-offs.
Technical Familiarity:
Proficiency in data tools (SQL, Python) to analyze data and communicate efficiently with engineers.
Communication:
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business requirements and vice-versa

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a position requires 3-4 days a week in a client office (Washington DC). Compensation
$86,500-$101,500
This position is eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans
