Assistant Director for Living-Learning Communities
Position Classification Title: Student Housing Professional, Housing Officer/Residence Life.
Position Number: 519018. Appointment Type: Permanent Full‑Time. Location: Thompson 301.
Overview Join the family! The Department of Housing and Residence Life at Winston‑Salem State University is accepting applications for the Assistant Director for Living‑Learning Communities. The role provides dedicated leadership, coordination, and assessment for WSSU’s Living‑Learning Communities. This role ensures that academic and residential experiences are intentionally aligned to support student success, engagement, and retention.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement living‑learning communities in alignment with the university’s academic and student engagement goals.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to enhance student learning and success.
Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with LLC partners, including academic departments, student services, and external organizations.
Recruit and engage stakeholders involved in LLCs, providing ongoing support to ensure the program’s success.
Promote LLC opportunities during admissions, new student orientation, and other events.
Provide information and guidance to incoming students and families to help them meet deadlines, understand expectations, and prepare for their first year.
Deliver oral presentations to promote LLCs and their benefits to prospective students and campus partners.
Provide specialized training for Resident Advisors to help them understand the goals of the LLCs.
Support RAs in developing programming and activities that align with LLC objectives.
Coordinate and assess living‑learning community programs and services using evidence‑based approaches.
Develop and implement program assessment tools to measure LLC effectiveness, engagement levels, and student outcomes.
Provide comprehensive annual reports on LLC activities, outcomes, and assessments.
Maintain accurate documentation of programs, partnerships, and student engagement.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
Three to five years of experience in student affairs or housing and residence life.
Experience working with Living‑Learning Communities, residential curriculums, or other high‑impact academic engagement initiatives.
Experience designing or facilitating learning‑focused residential or co‑curricular programs.
Strong skills in program coordination, student engagement, and community‑building.
Demonstrated ability to train, guide, and support student staff, especially Resident Advisors.
Training or experience in program assessment, data interpretation, and using results to inform practice.
Familiarity with systems such as StarRez, Banner, EAB Navigate, or similar platforms.
Ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff, and campus stakeholders.
Effective communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
Strong organizational skills, including ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of residential life operations, student success strategies, and high‑impact educational practices.
Skill in promoting programs to students, families, and partners through multiple communication channels.
Requirements & Conditions
Position requires work during periods of adverse weather or other emergencies.
Will require a Valid US Driver’s License.
Commercial Driver’s License required.
