Recreation Leader I

The Recreation Leader I conducts or assists in the organization of community recreation programs, park activities and special events; assists in the planning, implementation and promotion of recreation programs for youth and adults; supervises the distribution, use and care of recreation supplies, equipment and facilities; promotes the safety of patrons who utilize the parks and its programs; and maintains order at recreation facilities during organized activities. MUST BE WILLING TO WORK WEEKENDS, EVENING HOURS AND HOLIDAYS. STANDARDS Applicants must be sixteen (16) years of age or older, and currently certified in community CPR and standard first aid. Six (6) months of paid or volunteer experience instructing, conducting or planning recreation activities, cultural arts or related recreation activities is desirable. Participation or training in drama, music, crafts, painting or experience in leadership through school or civic organizations is preferred. Knowledge of recreation programs and services, cultural arts, ability to organize recreation activities, deal effectively with both adults and youth, work without immediate supervision, plan, organize, and implement recreation programs. SELECTION PROCEDURE Applications will be accepted by the City of Lancaster until positions are filled. Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an oral interview. WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (100 pounds with assistance and up to 50 pounds alone); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information; and to respond to emergencies and call-outs. Environmental: Work is performed both in indoors and in outdoor field environment; may work alone; incumbents may be exposed to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, in all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; workers may be required to respond to emergency calls after hours, including evening and weekends and/or work unusual and prolonged work schedules or work multiple shifts during emergencies, seasonally-caused circumstances, or special projects. **Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.**
