Community Relations Internship

BankNewport’s Summer Internship Program will run June 1, 2026 – August 14, 2026 and will be located onsite in Middletown, RI.

The Community Relations Intern will support the Community Relations team with day-to-day responsibilities related to community engagement, data tracking, and program support. This internship provides hands‑on experience assisting with grant and contribution tracking, volunteer initiatives, financial education programs, and community outreach efforts. The intern may also support bankwide or statewide community collection drives. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, service-minded individual interested in community engagement, nonprofit relations, or corporate social responsibility. Actively participate in the BankNewport Summer Internship Program by assisting the department with various duties and tasks. At the culmination of the internship, the intern will create a final presentation to showcase the skills and knowledge acquired through the program.

Responsibilities

Assist with day-to-day Community Relations activities and administrative support

Support tracking and reporting for grants, contributions, and employee service hours (Kadince system)

Assist with data entry, reporting, and record maintenance related to community programs

Support the We’re All In volunteer program, including coordination and tracking activities

Assist with the BNWise Financial Education program support and materials

Help coordinate or support bankwide or statewide community collection drives as needed

Collaborate with Community Relations team members on outreach initiatives and projects

Perform additional tasks as assigned to support community engagement priorities

Other Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Performs related and unrelated duties as may be required.

Qualifications

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Interest in community engagement, volunteerism, or corporate social responsibility

Ability to manage data tracking and reporting accurately

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Professional, dependable, and eager to learn

High School Diploma/ GED Equivalent

Currently pursuing a degree in Communications, Business, Nonprofit Management, Social Sciences, or a related field

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Supervisory Scope No supervisory responsibility

Independent Action

Performs work within established guidelines and according to specific procedures.

Generally refers specific problems to manager where clarification of policies and procedures is needed.
