Position Description: The Small Groups Director works closely with the Adult Discipleship Pastor to provide relational small group growth opportunities for MDPC adult members, guests, friends, and other adults, ranging in age from 20s to 90s, while noting Adult Discipleship’s particular focus on adults age 40 and above. The Small Groups Director will also share with the Adult Discipleship Pastor and Adult Studies Director in the substantial teaching responsibilities of the department, help classes and other groups incorporate small group methods and practices, develop and write curricula and resources, guide and nurture volunteer facilitators and teachers, and serve in the overall leadership and practice of the department’s ministry.
Position Scope:
This is a 40-hour per week exempt position, with the eligibility for enrollment in MDPC’s benefit plans.
Specific Responsibilities :
Envision, implement, and direct MDPC’s new program of relational adult small group ministry, with the guidance and oversight of the Adult Discipleship Pastor, including (but not limited to) the following:
Develop the vision and foundational philosophy of the relational small group ministry in coordination with the Adult Discipleship Pastor and Adult Discipleship team
Write curriculum and/or materials used by groups and facilitators
Recruit facilitators, hosts, and other group leaders and train them in their roles
Encourage participation by MDPC leaders, members, guests, friends, and colleagues
Oversee and provide continuing guidance, encouragement, and support to groups, hosts, and facilitators
Administer the program’s ongoing planning, execution, evaluation, and development
Teach regularly in a variety of settings, such as Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and others
Develop and write resources for incorporating small group practice and methodology within other Adult Discipleship offerings, such as discipleship groups, Sunday morning classes, and theological training courses, as well as for MDPC’s broader ministry, with the guidance of the Adult Discipleship Pastor
Participate with the Adult Discipleship Pastor and the Adult Studies Director in guiding, nurturing, and developing Adult Discipleship volunteer teachers, facilitators, and other leaders
Advise groups, classes, and individuals regarding resources for small group formation, facilitation, methodology, curricula, and other related needs
Collaborate with other MDPC ministry departments, such as Caring, Young Adults, Outreach, and Relationships, to create, implement, and evaluate shared opportunities
Team up with the Adult Discipleship Pastor and Adult Studies Director on relevant projects and tasks as requested
Contribute with other responsibilities and duties as assigned
Position Qualifications: Qualifications:
Master’s degree in relevant field preferred; bachelor’s degree in relevant field mandatory
A person of prayer; a student of scripture; a lover of people
Creative, energetic, self-motivated, ability to multi-task
Proven teaching and writing experience in a large, multi-staff church setting
Spiritual gifts of leadership, administration, teaching, encouragement, etc.
Other Requirements or Special Conditions:
