What We’re Looking For The Senior Surveyor in the Global Digital Survey Centre (Miami) delivers remote/digital surveys using advanced inspection technologies and proven remote techniques. The role captures, validates and analyses survey evidence to determine compliance of assets with LR Classification Rules and applicable statutory requirements.
In addition, the Senior Surveyor supports the Digital Survey Team Lead by monitoring workload and quality, coaching colleagues and contributing to overall team performance.
The Global Digital Survey Centre (Miami) primarily undertakes remote surveys for Passenger Cruise vessels and conducts urgent remote survey support for all vessel types worldwide during on‑duty periods.
The Senior Surveyor should be experienced, proactive, passionate, and able to work under pressure and make tough decisions.

Responsibilities
Conduct remote surveys of assets using a variety of remote techniques, perform survey and gather relevant data on ship structures, equipment, machinery, and systems.
Collect, analyze, and interpret supporting information and data gathered during remote surveys to assess the compliance of assets with applicable rules, regulations, standards, and guidelines. Identify potential risks, defects, or non‑compliances.
Prepare accurate and detailed reports documenting survey findings. Ensure that all relevant information is timely recorded, maintained, and shared with appropriate stakeholders.
Collaborate with technical experts and colleagues to resolve technical issues, interpret complex data, and provide guidance on survey methodologies and techniques. Offer technical support and assistance to stakeholders as needed.
Stay updated with the latest LR training and qualification requirements, industry developments, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to asset surveys.
Engage in continuous professional development activities to enhance knowledge, skills, and expertise in remote surveys and other digital services.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and digitalisation to enhance survey efficiency and effectiveness.
Actively seek feedback from stakeholders and use it to enhance survey processes, methodologies, and reporting standards. Regularly review and update survey practices based on lessons learned and industry advancements to ensure ongoing improvement in quality.
Communicate effectively with shipowners, managers, regulatory bodies, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of survey objectives, requirements, and outcomes. Foster positive and collaborative relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
Meet the established timelines and quality objectives for surveys to maintain operational efficiency.
Plan and execute surveys within the agreed‑upon timeframes, considering factors such as asset availability, scheduling constraints, client expectations and operational efficiencies.
Assist the team leader in managing a team of surveyors and technical support colleagues, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure their professional development and performance.
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to junior surveyors, identifying areas for improvement and implementing development plans.
Act as a technical resource and provide expertise in complex surveys, assisting surveyors in resolving technical challenges and making informed decisions.
Qualifications
A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea‑going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
Strong professional experience in marine surveying in particular Passenger Cruise Vessels.
Adherence to professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
Use of a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to optimise the application of existing and emerging technology.
Ability to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to the analysis and solution of engineering problems.
Provide technical and commercial leadership within the responsibilities assigned.
Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work.
