Martinsville High School Athletic Director
Oversees all aspects of the school's athletic programs, including but not limited to budgets, schedules, contracts, hiring of coaches, compliance with IHSAA/Mid State policies, and maintaining facilities. The Athletic Director fosters student/team athletic development, academics, safety, and sportsmanship.

Job Summary and Requirements Provide visionary leadership and oversight to ensure a safe, positive, and high‑performing learning environment that supports students’ academic achievement and social‑emotional development. Supervise and evaluate staff, implement district policies and school improvement plans, oversee curriculum and instructional practices, manage budgets and resources, support student discipline and restorative practices, respond to crises, and foster strong partnerships with families and the community. Lead school‑wide initiatives, facilitate professional development, and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The position requires the ability to remain emotionally stable, exercise sound judgment, and maintain professional composure in a fast‑paced environment while managing multiple responsibilities and responding appropriately to student needs and unexpected situations. The role also requires the ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; move throughout the classroom and school; and lift and carry materials or equipment weighing 20 pounds or more as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Administration & Compliance:
Manages budgets, contracts, schedules games/transportation, verifies student eligibility, and ensures compliance with the IHSAA/Mid State Conference policies; works closely with administration.
Staff Management:
Hires, mentors, and evaluates coaches; leads pre‑season coaches' meetings.
Event Management:
Oversees home game logistics, including security, ticket sales, and staffing (officials, custodians, timekeepers).
Facilities & Equipment:
Supervises and schedules athletic facilities; maintains NFHS field/court compliance; schedules field/gym usage, and manages inventory of uniforms and equipment.
Communication & Safety:
Acts as a liaison between parents, coaches, administration, and athletic trainers; ensures safety protocols are met, including injury reporting.
Fundraising:
Plans and implements fundraising initiatives for the department/teams.
Qualifications Valid teaching license/certificate. Prefer relevant teaching experience, previous athletic administration and/or coaching experience, strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills are crucial, and CPR/First Aid certification; IHSAA Certified.
Working Conditions
Requires long/flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to supervise events.
Low/High‑stress environment requiring conflict resolution skills.
Requires significant mobility to walk, sit, stand, and monitor facilities.
Compensation and Benefits Salary is based on experience and certification. Benefit options include section 125 health, vision, and dental coverage, subject to plan terms (for employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week), voluntary benefits such as life insurance, long‑term disability, and other ancillary insurance options (subject to applicable waiting periods, for employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week), participation in VEBA to receive up to 1% of salary deposited into individual VEBA account (must be vested 5 years), participation in TRF My Choice: Retirement Savings Plan or TRF Hybrid Plan, investment program (403b) with up to 3% 401a match, paid Time Off, 4 personal days and 9 sick days. This will be prorated based on the start date. Unused paid leave days roll over into sick accumulated days, and use of the Wellness Gym (workout facility for all employees and guests ages 18+) and Marathon Health Clinic.
