Teacher – Graphic Communications (Printing and Graphics) Harford Technical High School Position Summary: To create a safe atmosphere conducive to learning and to implement instruction in a manner that allows all students to learn. Provides instructional and leadership services that prepare students with the related academic critical thinking, computer technology, workplace readiness and technical skills essential to pursuing career pathways in graphic communications and printing. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE Essentials functions: These are intended only as examples of the various types of job duties to be performed. Plans, prepares, and delivers instruction that facilitates active learning and provides for appropriate learning experiences for all students. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Manages student behavior by establishing and enforcing classroom school and district expectations and procedures. Assigns and grades class work, homework, assessments, and assignments. Establishes, communicates, monitors, and evaluates clear outcomes for students. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and the community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence while participating in on-going professional development activities. Maintains and updates all appropriate records completely and accurately as required by laws, district policies, and/or school practices. Attends and participates in department/grade level, school, district, and parent meetings, and serves on special committees. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, technology, materials, and facilities. Monitors the progress of individual students and uses information to adjust teaching strategies accordingly. Provides appropriate feedback on student progress to students and parents in a timely manner. Reacts to change productively. Collaborates with staff and post-secondary institutions to develop and maintain career pathways that prepare students for apprenticeship, community college, or university degree programs. Leads student experiences in career field-related student organizations. Partners with employers and community groups to promote and advance technical skills. Salary This is a full-time ten-month position. Salary range based on the FY 2025-2026 HCEA Salary Schedule for Certified Teacher Personnel. Starting Salary: $57,797–Maximum Earnings Potential $111,648. Qualifications Hold or be eligible for a teaching certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education. Classroom instruction and pedagogy experience. Experience in one or more of the major areas of graphic arts design and printing production. Experience in printing production operations preferred. Knowledge and expertise with computer equipment operations and software applications. Knowledge and expertise with graphic communications and printing production technical equipment and industry-specific software. Knowledge of curriculum, effective instructional techniques, instructional materials and equipment. Strong human relations skills and the ability to maintain relationships and open communications with business partners and other stakeholders to identify real-world applications of content. Effective organization and communication skills. Flexibility in program implementation strategies. Skills in preparing, implementing lesson plans, and instructing students. Skill in communicating with students, their parents, administrators, and others. Skill in supervising students and managing behavior. Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, and staff. Ability to maintain confidential information. Professional Technical Education and Specialized Areas for Fine Arts (Grades 7-12) To receive licensure in Professional Technical Education and Specialized Areas for Fine Arts (Grades 7-12), the applicant shall complete one of the following Pathways: Maryland Approved Program Candidates who complete a Maryland approved educator preparation program as set forth in COMAR 13A.07.06 shall meet the following requirements: • Bachelor’s degree or higher; and • Completion of an approved program as set forth in COMAR 13A.07.06. Out-of-State Preparation Program Candidates who complete a state-approved educator preparation program leading to licensure in that state shall meet the following requirements: • Bachelor’s degree or higher; and • Complete a preparation program, including a clinical internship, approved to lead to professional and technical education licensure in another state, in the license area being sought. Out-of-State License Candidates who hold a valid or expired professional license/certificate in a professional and technical education area from another state or foreign country are eligible for a comparable Maryland license. National Board Certificate (Professional and Technical Education only) Candidates who hold a National Board Certificate in the area of Career and Technical Education are eligible for a comparable Advanced Professional License. Occupational Experience Candidates with occupational experience in a Professional and Technical area or Specialized Area of Fine Arts shall meet the following requirements: • Occupational Experience: Verification of 3 years of occupational experience in the area to be taught that may include satisfactory post‑secondary teaching experience in the area to be taught; and/or satisfactory occupational employment. • The applicant may substitute a Department‑accepted, current industry recognized credential for 1 year of the occupational experience requirement. • The applicant may substitute a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in the area to be taught for 1 year of the occupational experience requirement. • Completion of 12 credits of professional education coursework from an institution of higher education or through Department-approved continuing professional development credits to include the following topics: • Planning, delivering, and assessing instruction; • Classroom management; • Differentiating Instruction to accommodate students with special needs; and • Teaching literacy in the content area.
