Join the Jefferson City News Tribune as Managing Editor and lead coverage for Missouris Capital City. As a locally owned, family-run newspaper and the third most read newspaper in Missouri, we offer a unique opportunity to shape news for our community and its surroundings.
This role inspires and shapes the editorial vision across print, digital, and broadcast platforms, driving daily and long-term stories that connect state government with community life. The Managing Editor energizes a newsroom of more than 30 journalists, photographers, designers, and editors, and fosters collaborative coverage across sister newspapers in Fulton and California, Missouri.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with newsroom leadership to set and bring to life an editorial vision that inspires.
Oversee daily and enterprise reporting, special projects, and editorials.
Guide and mentor reporters producing impactful, award-winning journalism
Use audience analytics to inform coverage and engagement.
Manage staffing, hiring, and newsroom planning.
Be a visible, trusted leader and engage directly with the community through public forums.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, or related field
Minimum five years of newsroom leadership experience
Strong news judgment, leadership, and mentoring skills
Knowledge of media law and public records
Commitment to fair, accurate, and community-focused journalism
