The Associate Executive Director is a key leadership role within UC Davis Health's Facilities Planning and Development (FP&D) Division. This position is directly responsible for executing UC Davis Health's Capital Program, currently valued at approximately $7.5 billion and consisting of approximately 800 individual projects. This program is currently the largest of its kind in the United States.

The Associate Executive Director supports the Capital Program through responsibility for all contracts with design professionals and construction contractors; leadership of design and construction project management standardization and training; business development and outreach to potential business partners; and executive‑level (C‑suite) reporting on the Capital Program.

This position also serves as FP&D's Chief of Staff, responsible for internal division coordination and high‑level coordination with UC Davis Health leadership and other organizational units.

Department Overview Facilities Planning and Development (FP&D) is responsible for managing UC Davis Health's Capital Program, including planning, contracting, project management, systems, and controls necessary to deliver large‑scale healthcare capital projects successfully.

The Associate Executive Director provides direct leadership over FP&D's core support teams, including: Capital contracting team; Project Management Office (PMO); Administrative team; Communications team; Budget team; Business Intelligence & Systems teams.

Together, these teams support the Capital Program by providing project standardization, program management tools, systems, and processes that ensure projects are delivered within scope, schedule, and budget.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training

Extensive management experience in planning, design, construction, and/or management of large projects and facilities

Superior skill/experience in the financial modeling, operations, and management of large‑scale health care projects and facilities

Financial skill/experience to prepare, monitor, and manage complex, detailed project budgets, evaluate independent cost estimates, and review and approve payment requests

Leadership and managerial experience/skills to direct several professional teams working on unique and technically difficult projects in a complex administrative environment

Experience supervising personnel, including recruitment, training, work assignment, setting expectations, evaluating performance, and initiating reward or corrective action as required

Extensive knowledge of current project and construction costs and experience with industry‑standard cost estimating systems

Extensive knowledge of typical design and construction sequences and durations necessary to prepare, monitor, and manage detailed project schedules

Proven leadership skills that include work with complex organizations and large projects

Clear communicator with a strong grasp of political and organizational dynamics

A background in facilities capital projects

Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, project management, and document management database programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, and Windows operating environment

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in a related area

Experience as a project manager of institutional major capital projects with leadership responsibility for budgets, schedules, and team coordination

Experience working in an academic healthcare setting

Experience with the risk/reward structure of various types of design and construction contracts and how a contract's structure supports the project's goals

Knowledge of inpatient and outpatient health care facilities operations

Working knowledge and understanding of Lean Principles, Integrated Project Delivery, and Lean Construction Techniques

Working knowledge of regulatory requirements including CA Title 24, OSHPD and the Americans with Disabilities Act
