Overview
The Grainger College of Engineering - Department of Bioengineering seeks an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Programs. The department has 569 undergraduate students across three majors: Bioengineering, CS+BIOE, and Neural Engineering. It is experiencing significant growth in course offerings and student enrollment. The Assistant Director will oversee recruitment, admissions, advising, and overall administration of the undergraduate program office.
Duties & Responsibilities Administration and Operations
Manage the day‑to‑day administration and operations of the Bioengineering undergraduate program office.
Oversee undergraduate recruitment, admissions, and advising operations, ensuring departmental policies are implemented and comply with university standards.
Meet regularly with the Associate Head and Director of Operations to discuss program development, enrollment management, course access, and curricular issues.
Collaborate with faculty to oversee activities such as class schedule development, enrollment management, academic integrity reviews, study abroad course reviews, scholarship selection, transfer requests, curriculum modification, student recruitment and retention, graduation matters, and undergraduate orientation.
Organize meetings of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and other related committees.
Maintain data for accreditation, departmental reviews, and surveys; participate in the ABET accreditation process.
Work with Bioengineering Marketing and Communications to upgrade website content and develop recruitment marketing materials.
Advising, Student Services and Curriculum Management
Maintain an appropriate advising caseload, providing curriculum direction, degree auditing, career counseling, and plan‑of‑study approvals.
Attend Chief Advisor meetings in the Grainger College of Engineering and represent the department at meetings related to undergraduate matters.
Serve as the primary point of contact for undergraduate student conflict resolution and support students on probation or needing additional resources.
Represent the department at recruiting events and guide prospective families through the admissions process.
Advise leadership on new and revised curricular proposals for majors, minors, and certificates.
Supervision and Other Duties
Supervise and support professional, clerical staff and student workers in the undergraduate program office.
Assume additional duties to further the mission of the department.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline, higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, counseling, education, or a closely related field.
Three (3) years of professional experience in undergraduate admissions, student affairs, advising or related higher education work.
Demonstrated experience in student recruitment, admission counseling, program development, or similar academic settings.
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a STEM discipline, higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, counseling, education, or a closely related field.
Progressive responsibility in an area related to student services.
Experience in academic program management and curriculum oversight within an educational institution.
Experience working with external constituents.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with university administrative systems and web‑based student record systems (Banner, CourseLeaf, College of Engineering IT portal).
Comprehensive understanding of University policies related to undergraduate program administration.
Excellent communication skills, including interaction with faculty, students, and program constituents.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning, and management skills.
Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
Appointment Information This is a full‑time Academic Professional position on a 12‑month service basis. Expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary range: $72,000–$80,000. Hybrid work options may be available per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available.
