Great Basin College invites applications for the position of Executive Director of Human Resources. This senior leadership role serves as the College's chief human resources officer and principal advisor to the President and executive leadership team on all matters related to human capital, employee relations, organizational effectiveness, and workforce compliance. Located in rural Nevada, Great Basin College seeks a strategic yet highly practical HR leader who is comfortable balancing executive-level advising with hands-on operational involvement. The Executive Director will lead a small HR team and play a critical role in sustaining a responsive, compliant, and service-oriented HR function that supports a geographically dispersed workforce. This position is located on the Elko campus, with occasional travel required to other Great Basin College centers with or without reasonable accommodations as per the Americans with Disabilities Act. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Broad, working knowledge of human resources practices across multiple functional areas. Strong understanding of employment law, compliance obligations, and risk management. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and manage sensitive, high-risk matters. Proven leadership experience, including supervision and team development. Ability to operate effectively in a lean, resource-constrained environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree. Experience in a higher education environment. SPHR and/or SHRM-SCP certification. Familiarity with Workday or comparable HRIS platforms. Responsibilities: Executive Leadership and Advising: Serve as the College's senior HR executive and trusted advisor to the President and executive leadership team. Participate in institutional planning and decision-making as a member of the leadership team. Provide guidance on workforce strategy, succession planning, organizational design, and employee engagement. Human Resources Operations: Direct and oversee daily HR operations to ensure timely, consistent, and high-quality service delivery. Establish and monitor workflows appropriate for a lean HR department serving a geographically dispersed workforce. Employee Relations and Risk Management: Provide oversight of employee relations matters, including performance management, corrective action, investigations, and conflict resolution. Advise supervisors and leadership on policy interpretation, disciplinary processes, and due process considerations. Coordinate with legal counsel, system partners, and regulatory agencies as required. Compliance and Policy Administration: Ensure institutional compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to Title VII, ADA, FLSA, and FMLA. Oversee development, implementation, and consistent application of HR policies and procedures. Maintain audit readiness through accurate documentation, records management, and reporting practices. Workforce Administration and HR Systems: Oversee recruitment, onboarding, classification, compensation, benefits, and leave administration processes. Provide oversight of HRIS functionality, data integrity, and reporting. Utilize workforce data to support institutional planning and continuous improvement. Supervision: Directly supervise HR staff. Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and service. Compensation Grade: Administrative Faculty D This is a 12 month "A" contract position, 12 month contracts are used for year round programs. The budgeted salary range for this position is $105,000 - $115,000 Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.
