Civil Designer - Aviation & Federal (San Diego, CA)

Description A Civil Designer will be a key contributor to the design and production of a diverse range of engineering projects, ranging from large-scale aviation design‑build projects to the most sophisticated facilities in support of various Federal agencies. The ideal candidate is proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and thrives in a collaborative environment.

Develop various civil project designs, including site design, land development, roads, storm drainage systems, storm water management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utility design, sediment and erosion control, and traffic control, airports, and facility design.

Lead drawing production work, including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non‑routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.

Lead a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches.

Lead the quality review of designs or sketches and mark‑ups on ongoing projects.

Present reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geological data to plan design projects.

Interpret design codes and specifications related to design requirements.

Lead design drawings within scope, budget and schedule.

Quality review volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and upland site grading.

Incorporate and approve schedules, budgets and project criteria into civil design and layouts for project financial goals.

Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project‑related information in a logical and well‑structured manner.

Train, mentor and develop staff members.

Participate in marketing and client development meetings.

Responsible for the civil design QA/QC process.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Compiles with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field and 7 years of related experience required, or

Associate Degree and 8 years of related experience required, or

9 years of progressive detailing and design experience.

Field experience is desirable.

Advanced understanding of AutoCAD Civil3D to develop the design deliverables. An understanding of Revit, Navisworks, and Excel is desirable.

Advanced knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.

Advanced knowledge in the theory and practices of civil discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.

Work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi‑discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and attention to detail.

Compensation $115,000.00‑200,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year‑end incentive bonus program.
