
Mechanical Designer

The Mechanical Designer works collaboratively with Design Engineers to model, design, develop, and test electric motors for industrial, transportation, material handling, nuclear, power generation, and military applications. The role supports new product development, existing product improvements, design‑for‑manufacturability efforts, and cost‑reduction initiatives. The role is based in Charlotte, NC.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Support mechanical design and development of Permanent Magnet AC, Brushed DC, and Brushless DC electric motors from fractional horsepower to 700 HP.
Provide analysis and test support for motor designs, ensuring performance and quality.
Create models and drawings in SOLIDWORKS and assist with finite element analysis and simulation.
Provide technical assistance to Sales, Production, and Program Management.
Support warranty and failure reviews and document corrective actions.
Prepare engineering drawings, bills of materials, test plans, technical reports, and assembly/work instructions.
Design fixtures and components for new and existing products.
Manage workload effectively while supporting multiple projects.
Collaborate in a team-oriented environment and support cost‑reduction and quality initiatives.
Convert drawings and models from paper, 2D CAD, or other CAD systems to SOLIDWORKS.
Experience and Education Required
Engineering degree or 3+ years of relevant drafting experience.
Experience with PMAC, Brushed DC, and Brushless DC motors and drives preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficient with SOLIDWORKS
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Proficient with GD&T, familiarity with ASME Y14.5 standards preferred
Experience with engineering change processes
Experience with SOLIDWORKS PDM a plus
Experience with ERP systems (SAP, D365, etc.) preferred
Travel Requirements Occasional (less than 15%) domestic travel expected to other HBD locations, customers, and/or vendors
