
Print and Mail Specialist

Position Purpose
Independently manages and provides analysis of various print and mail projects from inception of a job to completion. Communicates effectively – orally and in writing with staff, faculty, administrators and students. Operates various types of digital printers and mailroom equipment such as addressers, inserters, tabbers and station stuffers. Maintains a solid, working knowledge of prepress, press and USPS regulations and requirements regarding the preparation of materials for printing and mailing. Works autonomously and within assigned time frames. Responsible for set up, operation and maintenance of all bindery equipment, digital printing and mailing equipment. Performs associated administrative tasks including filling out necessary production records, entering information into the job tracking system, requisitions for paper and material when reorder level is reached. Assumes responsibility for supplies in digital/mail area.

Responsibilities
Project Management:
Analyzes requirements of individual print and mail projects.
Evaluates each job for eligibility for printing and/or postal discounts; offers project analysis to customers to optimize printing and/or mailing dollars.
Serves as liaison to College departments for printing and mailing projects.
Manages each project from inception to delivery.
Determines actions to minimize costs and assure optimum discounts.
Finishing Print and Mail:
Has basic knowledge of how to set up MBO Folder, Four Station Inserter, Challenge Cutter and all book binding and laminating equipment.
Provides daily deliveries as needed.
Administrative:
Assures all quality controls checks are followed.
Effectively communicates orally and in writing with the Dartmouth community.
Maintains a professional demeanor and exercises tact and discretion when difficult customer situations arise.
Uses the DPMS Job Tracking Database to accurately record information on the physical job jacket and perform data entry to assure accurate invoicing and inventory controls.
Print and Mail Project Preparation:
Uses industry specific software to prepare work for digital presses, offset press, letterpress and mailing devices.
Is conversant in all DPMS applications and able to program complicated packets on digital devices, prepare files for printing and manage both development and customer-provided files for output using USPS software.

Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four years of experience with digital printers, print and mail specific software, and operating various mailing, printing and bindery equipment.
Associates plus 3+ years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to set priorities and manage a variety of projects concurrently.
High degree of accuracy, ability to work independently, awareness of deadlines and confidentiality.
Working knowledge of digital DocuTech, image setting, plate making and color equipment.
Solid knowledge of print terminology, process, estimating, billing and invoicing and report generation for administrative management needs.
