Job Summary The Division of Developmental Disabilities works to ensure people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the right to live, love, work and play in their communities. The Director provides leadership to grow a state-of-the-art service delivery system, enabling people across South Dakota to lead healthy, independent, and productive lives.
Principal Accountabilities
Plans and directs the division’s activities, including approving policies, writing and monitoring budget, setting goals and evaluating quality statistics.
Supervises subordinate staff through interviewing, selecting, training, assigning work, approving leave, addressing personnel issues, and appraising performance.
Ensures quality IDD services by overseeing provider certification, negotiating contracts, enforcing standards, monitoring quality measures, and decertifying non-compliant agencies.
Acts as the state’s authority on IDD, directing provider certification, evaluating services, managing interstate client transfers, and serving on state and national committees to draft rules and legislation.
Functions as Chief of Staff for the Division Director.
Requires statewide travel.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Degree in management/administration or related field; experience managing personnel and a large organization or team.
Strong communication skills and proven experience fostering relationships with staff and external partners.
Knowledge of

Intellectual or developmental disability service delivery in South Dakota

Project management techniques
