Director of Admissions and Outreach
Waldorf Education, Alexandria, VA, United States
Potomac Crescent Waldorf School
(PCWS) is seeking a Director of Admissions and Outreach to join our dedicated staff and vibrant community at our newly renovated school in historic Old Town Alexandria near Washington, D.C., beginning in June 2026.
The Director of Admissions and Outreach holds a key role in shaping the future of our school. With responsibilities to attract, enroll, and retain mission-aligned students, this person serves as both storyteller and steward—promoting and communicating the heart of Waldorf education while supporting families as they explore the unique rhythm, developmental approach, and community life at Potomac Crescent Waldorf School.
This work blends strategic planning, outreach and communication with relationship-building and administrative leadership as we seek to enroll students and families who will thrive within our mission and values. This position will report to the Director of Administration and work collaboratively with faculty and parent volunteers.
About PCWS was established in 1998, and our newly renovated school building is in historic Old Town Alexandria with an onsite playground and access to local parks for forest day programming. PCWS is a full member of WECAN and an associate member of AWSNA. We offer preschool through fifth grade programming, as well as parent-child classes for infants and toddlers from birth to age three.
We have a dedicated staff, faculty, and Board of Directors and a governance model based on collaborative leadership from these three realms. We have a committed community of families with an active Parent Association that offers many opportunities for families to connect with each other, including a handwork group, coffee meet‑ups, an annual bonfire and all‑school camping trips in the fall and spring.
We strive to develop thoughtful, fulfilled citizens who have the capacity to think imaginatively, communicate effectively, and relate compassionately. We believe in educating the whole human being: head, heart and hands, and in nurturing well‑rounded individuals who will be successful in school and beyond.
Welcoming & Guiding Families
Serve as a warm, knowledgeable ambassador of Waldorf education, our school’s mission, and the quality of our curriculum and community.
Support families throughout the admissions journey with clarity, care, and responsiveness.
Admissions Leadership & Enrollment Stewardship
Manage the admissions cycle process with prospective families, from first inquiry and cultivation of interest through the application process, including facilitation of faculty review and decision‑making, as well as the enrollment process, including welcoming events and connections within the parent community.
Develop and implement a comprehensive admissions strategy that supports healthy enrollment and long‑term sustainability.
Track the pipeline and retention of students from Early Childhood to Grades to maintain knowledge of the likely size of all classes and to guide decision‑making about redirection of resources as necessary to grow class sizes.
Plan at least two parent education events annually, as well as first grade readiness meetings for kindergarten families.
Outreach
Collaborate with the Director of Administration and provide feedback and information about admissions needs to factor into marketing plans, promotional materials, and digital content.
Develop and execute multi‑channel recruitment and communication plans to nurture prospects from initial inquiry through enrollment, including newsletters, emails, (nurturing and drip) campaigns, in person, phone, and virtual strategies.
Develop and maintain relationships with local preschools, early childhood programs, elementary schools, and other potential feeder programs and groups.
Promote PCWS at school fairs, including virtual events.
Plan and host admissions events, open houses, information sessions (like Waldorf in the Grades), and community gatherings that reflect the artistry, warmth, and intentionality of Waldorf education.
Student Reports and Transition Support
Facilitate the faculty process for student report‑writing and collaborate with administration colleagues to maintain records and to send reports to families and other schools as needed.
Develop and implement a strategy to help fifth grade families understand the timeline and general process for applying to middle schools.
Support School Life
Participate in school festivals, community events, and other moments that reflect the spirit and seasonal rhythms of Waldorf education.
Uphold practices of equity, inclusion, and respect in admissions work.
Support office coverage and first aid care for students, as needed.
Collaborate with colleagues to advance school priorities by attending weekly faculty meetings and participating in committee work (First Grade Readiness, Accreditation, and Events).
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
5+ years of experience in admissions, enrollment management, marketing and/or other related areas
Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to balance vision with execution
Excellent interpersonal skills in order to connect authentically with a wide range of people
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with care and attention to detail
Preferred
Experience in Waldorf education or a deep interest in learning about it
Experience in independent school admissions or community engagement
Prior leadership or supervisory experience
Proficiency with data management, search engine marketing (SEM) and customer relationship management (CRM) tools
We seek a Director of Admissions who:
Appreciates the developmental wisdom at the heart of Waldorf education
Is warm, grounded, and genuinely enjoys meeting and supporting families
Works collaboratively and communicates with openness and clarity
Balances strategic thinking with a heartfelt approach
Holds a commitment to diversity, equity, and a thriving community life
Brings professionalism while honoring the human‑centered spirit of Waldorf values
This is an exempt, salaried position. PCWS staff benefits include paid leave, tuition discounts for enrolled children and health, dental, and vision insurance access.
