The Team:

The Index Engineering team is responsible for prototyping, building, and launching indices across various asset classes. The team oversees the full lifecycle of the index development process and interfaces with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure successful product delivery.

This role provides an opportunity to understand and implement cutting‑edge index products.

This role will offer the opportunity to connect with stakeholders from all aspects of SPDJI’s business and directly engage with a wide variety of client and product types.

This role allows work with a highly collaborative and creative global team of financial engineers for continuous learning and personal growth.

Responsibilities and Impact:

Index Engineering is a global team responsible for developing and launching indices at S&P Dow Jones Indices. This role covers the full lifecycle of index development and is suited for an individual who is highly analytical, creative, and attentive to detail.

The key responsibilities include:

Develop calculation prototypes and test cases for new indices.

Perform test calculations and reconcile results with clients.

Analyze, develop, and implement indices on our strategic Python‑based platform.

Create and review index methodologies.

Understand industry regulations and provide compliance guidance to clients.

Support the operations team in launching, ongoing delivery, and overall quality of service.

Each index built and launched by the team directly contributes to SPDJI’s mission, market strategy, and revenue goals, with innovative solutions continuously expanding capabilities for the investment community.

Compensation/Benefits (US candidates only):

S&P Global states an anticipated base salary range for this position of $122,865 to $176,050. Final base salary will depend on geographic location, experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan and various S&P Global benefits. (Further details are available on request.)

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in math, finance, or a related quantitative discipline.

Knowledge of fixed income and other asset classes, including equities, FX, and commodities.

Knowledge of index construction processes and methodologies, including back‑testing and optimization.

Experience in an asset‑management context is a big plus.

Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Ability to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision.

High attention to detail and commitment to project quality.

Demonstrated analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non‑routine problems in a timely and insightful manner.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate with clients and colleagues globally.

6–8+ years of professional experience in indices or a similar role.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Strength in quantitative analysis, including optimization.

Advanced technical ability with Python.
