
Classification Specialist (AUO)

Position Overview
This role supports a relatively new program focused on policy oversight, classification, and compensation, with an emphasis on program management, stakeholder coordination, and continuous improvement. The program is audited twice per year, requiring strong attention to detail and adherence to established standards.
Key Responsibilities
Review, interpret, and apply policy guidance
Support ongoing policy updates and compliance efforts (policy updated within the past year)
Participate in audit preparation and execution
Assist in managing program operations across the agency
Ensure alignment with established policies and procedures
Support efforts to improve and potentially automate program processes
Collaborate with classification specialists
Interpret classification language (e.g., OF-8 forms), though deep classification expertise is not required
Leverage compensation knowledge where applicable
Work closely with internal stakeholders, including AOs up to the Director level
Partner frequently with BPR teams
Provide customer service through coordination and collaboration across teams
Manage and track policy-related tasks and audit activities
Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely deliverables
Communicate program updates and requirements clearly
Proactively identify issues and opportunities for improvement
Maintain organization and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment
Standardize how the program is managed across the agency
Continue refining and enforcing updated policy guidance
Move toward increased automation of processes
Expand use of systems, applications, and reporting tools
Participate in testing tools and applications
Demonstrate ability to learn systems quickly and operate independently
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
Ability to interpret and apply complex information
Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
Proactive mindset with intellectual curiosity
Familiarity with systems, tools, and reporting platforms
Comfort learning and adapting to new technologies
Some technical aptitude (not highly technical, but capable and confident)
Experience in compensation is highly relevant
Exposure to classification processes is helpful but not required
