
Culture & Engagement Specialist

The Culture & Engagement Specialist supports MDC’s mission by fostering a positive, inclusive, and feedback‑driven work environment. This role leads engagement initiatives, coordinates organization‑wide trainings, manages benefits, organizational development, analytics, HRIS development, recognition programs, and partners across departments to strengthen organizational culture. The Specialist helps cultivate a culture where employees feel connected to MDC’s mission, supported in their wellness, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead employee engagement and recognition initiatives that reinforce MDC’s mission, values, and sense of belonging. Coordinate annual pulse surveys, focus groups, and action planning with leadership. Support organization wide engagement activities and employee participation events. Partner with the Workforce Relations Specialist to align engagement strategies with feedback from onboarding, 90‑day, and exit interviews. Develop and manage MDC’s annual training calendar, including compliance, safety, and leadership development programs. Track participation and ensure compliance with training requirements. Evaluate training outcomes and recommend enhancements to learning opportunities. Manage employee appreciation and wellness programs. Maintain the HR Intranet to help employees feel engaged. Collaborate with the Workforce Relations Specialist on performance reviews and goal setting with managers and employees. Coordinate benefit enrollments, open enrollment, and benefits communication. Track ACA compliance and support employee questions about benefit offerings. Support the HR Director with special projects that enhance organizational culture and well‐being. Draft and distribute internal HR communications, engagement updates, and event materials. Maintain HRIS data accuracy related to training, benefits, and engagement metrics. Support HR reporting and analytics related to engagement and participation. Maintain the HR compliance calendar, policies, and audit readiness. Track workforce analytics (turnover, retention, performance) to inform decision‑making. Partner with HR leadership to interpret data insights and recommend improvements to culture and engagement strategies. Administrative partner for volunteers within the organization. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Organizational Development, or related field; or equivalent experience. Minimum 2–4 years of experience in HR, engagement, or employee development. Ability to work with senior managers throughout the organization. PHR or equivalent certification is preferred. Experience working in a union environment is preferred. Demonstrated ability to build trust and engagement across diverse teams. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Experience coordinating training and events; HRIS and LMS experience preferred.
