Overview Yale School of Nursing seeks a dynamic, self‑motivated individual with experience in website administration and specifically social media. Under the direction of the Associate Dean and Interim Director for Marketing Communications and in close partnership with the Assistant Director, the Social Media Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the School’s social media platforms and assists with the YSN website maintenance and other digital projects as needed. This person will oversee the planning, organization, and publishing of all social media content and dissemination of digital messages. They will troubleshoot display issues using basic HTML, CSS, and content management tools, monitor web traffic, and create reports for senior leadership that identify patterns and content strengths and weaknesses. Yale School of Nursing will be engaging in a website overhaul; this position will lead the decision‑making processes regarding refinements to our social media strategy and its functionalities. The ideal candidate is technologically savvy, highly collaborative, has a keen visual sense, and strong attention to detail. Location: On‑site. Position: Part time (20 hours per week). Salary range: $41,000–$46,346 (76,789–86,904 FTE). Key Responsibilities Develop, manage, and execute a strategic social media content calendar across platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook). Create engaging posts, including copywriting, basic graphic creation, and light photo/video editing. Monitor platform analytics to track performance, identify trends, and produce regular reports with insights and recommendations. Maintain and grow social media communities through active engagement, timely responses, and audience interaction. Collaborate with communications, marketing, admissions, and academic teams to highlight priorities, events, and key initiatives. Manage social media coverage for events, announcements, and institutional milestones. Ensure all content aligns with brand standards, tone, accessibility requirements, and institutional policies. Stay informed about emerging platform features, algorithm changes, and best practices to optimize reach and engagement. Preferred Skills and Experience Experience managing social media for an organization, brand, or institution. Strong writing and storytelling skills tailored to diverse audiences and platforms. High proficiency with scheduling and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, native platform analytics). Familiarity with basic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and photo/video editing. Ability to plan, shoot, and edit short‑form video content. Principal Responsibilities Brand & Communications Strategy: Develops and executes public relations strategy, output, and performance for the department with the goal of increasing media impressions in local, national, industry‑specific, and alumni media. Creates communications strategy to showcase top technologies available for license and ensures consistent look and tone for all department communications. Media Relations: Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with media representatives. Identifies opportunities to work with other departments, university publications, and the Office of Public Affairs to develop and publicize stories. Content Creation: Assesses university faculty inventions and student startups for newsworthiness and creates compelling news and public relations content. Creates engaging, dynamic content for the public, including press releases, blog articles, website updates, newsletter articles, and social media. Outreach: Manages delivery channels for newsworthy content, including updating and maintaining the department websites, social media accounts, and articles for email newsletters, and creating video, print, and on‑campus events. Creates websites that embed existing content from Yale and external sites. Other: Seeks out, negotiates with and recommends external organizations that can provide services that optimize both the cost and functionality of the new communications strategy. Ensures that all communications conform to the University guidelines. Hires student workers as needed to assist in producing copy. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four years of experience in website design, production, marketing, project management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
