Day Camp Assistant Director Location: Oakbrook Terrace Corps Reports To: Day Camp Director FLSA Category: Non-Exempt Status Type: TFT Pay Grade: 204 Pay Range: $19.83 - $23.79

Outcomes Work under the direction of the Day Camp Director to ensure that the Day Camp is in keeping with the overall plans, goals, and directions of the Corps.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist Day Camp Director in planning and executing the weekly sessions and overseeing/supervising children and staff.

Understand and uphold that Day Camp overall will have a Christian emphasis.

Assist with the orientation prior to the start of Day Camp, the final musical program, and debriefing.

Conduct registration each day, including signing in campers and processing fees and receipts.

Keep accurate attendance records for the entire camp period and report statistics to the Business Administrator. Contact people on the camp waiting list when openings occur.

Coordinate volunteers.

Take supply inventory.

Supervise Day Camp staff when the Director is absent or as directed.

Take part as a leader on weekly field trips.

Read, sign, and abide by the Safe-From-Harm Policy.

Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

Must have completed at least 2 years of college or at least 2 years of experience in day camping, preferably in a supervisory capacity.

21 years of age or older preferred.

Competencies

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong leadership skills.

Understand and uphold that Day Camp overall will have a Christian emphasis.

Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.

Requires valid driver's license and pass the MVR check.

Attention to detail.

A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.

A commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army.

Position Limitations

This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.

This individual will keep the Day Camp Director informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.

This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to lift 10 pounds.

In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary for some periods of time; use hands and fingers; communicate; move; occasionally required to position self to stoop, kneel, or crouch; frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands, as required in using standard office equipment and PC.

The work environment for this position includes indoor and outdoor environments with a low to high noise level.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, and ability to focus.

Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors.

Reporting Relationships This role will assist in supervising the Day Camp staff and have primary responsibility for volunteer staff. Under the direct supervision of the Day Camp Director. In the absence of the Day Camp Director to be under the supervision of the Youth Development Director. The individual will act as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

Performance Measurements This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
