Responsibilities
Lead and supervise part‑time recreation staff, providing training, setting schedules, coaching performance, and writing evaluations.
Plan, organize and oversee a wide range of recreation programs and activities.
Handle customer concerns with confidence, providing solutions that enhance the participant experience.
Facilitate staff meetings and deliver training on program operations, safety, policies, and leadership skills.
Evaluate programs and services to ensure quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Travel to off‑site program locations to monitor activities and support city‑sponsored events.
Assist with creative work, including promotional materials.
Oversee tournament reservations, seasonal field allocations, hourly field rentals, and sports‑complex operations.
Minimum Qualifications & Education
High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
One year as a Recreation Leader II or comparable level of experience in recreation or a related field.
At least six months of lead or supervisory experience.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or job‑related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements
Must possess, at the time of application, and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license with no major citations within the past 36 months prior to the start date. Out‑of‑state driver’s licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona. Graduated Driver’s Licenses are considered restricted.
Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required for some positions depending on division/department/service assignment.
Salary The anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to the mid‑point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is up to $60,860.86 annually (or $29.26 per hour).
