Position Summary:

The Assistant Director leads the Analytics and Energy Management groups within UEM, focusing on process improvement, data strategy, and performance metrics. The role designs and implements streamlined processes that enhance utilities production and utilization efficiency, champions innovative tools, and oversees campus energy and water usage reporting to achieve sustainability and operational excellence goals.

Responsibilities

Lead UEM process improvement initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders to design, implement, and manage streamlined processes that enhance efficiency, operation, and service delivery across UEM functions.

Develop, implement, and oversee UEM's comprehensive data strategy and analytics vision, ensuring data drives decision‑making, performance metrics, and operational excellence in alignment with UEM goals.

Partner with the Sustainability team; foster relationships with Facilities, Environmental Health & Safety, colleges, and auxiliary owners to create incentives that encourage staff to improve energy performance and influence facility leadership on energy management priorities.

Set the tone for energy improvements organization‑wide, measure program success, collect and document energy use and performance data, perform baseline analyses, and evaluate operating performance of facility systems and equipment to identify improvement potential.

Manage, recruit, mentor, and develop the Analytics and Energy Management teams, fostering a collaborative, innovative culture to achieve departmental goals.

Perform administrative duties, ensure compliance with departmental and university standards and procedures, follow all safety policies, and maintain required safety training.

Participate in required meetings, training courses, and vehicle use as directed by university policies.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a degree in Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.

Minimum of three years' experience in energy management.

Licensed P.E. in the State of Texas.

Experience in a university campus environment.

Managerial and/or supervisory experience.

Strong leadership skills to manage and develop teams, strategic plans, and execute technical programs.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as approved.

Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a utility management, public works, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s or higher degree in Engineering, Data Analytics, Business Administration, or related field.

Certified Energy Manager credential.

Eight or more years of progressively responsible managerial and administrative experience in a utilities system.

Fifteen years of relevant experience in administrative practices and procedures applicable to a utilities department.

Experience with utility operations, maintenance, system planning, and work processes.

Additional Requirements

Driving:

Class "C" operator’s driver’s license is required. A current three‑year driving record from the state of residence must be provided. Texas residents must obtain a Texas driver’s license within 30 days of residency.

Salary Range:

$140,000

Physical Tasks:

Use of keyboard and personal computer; fine manual dexterity; may require work from ladders or incl. lift up to 50 lbs; may involve twisting, grasping, pushing, pulling, bending.

Environmental Demands:

May work in standard office conditions; mandatory personal protective equipment; potential exposure to heat, chemicals, asbestos, electrical hazards, computer emissions, biohazards, and extreme temperatures.
