
Outdoor Recreation Specialist

Rutgers University is seeking an Outdoor Recreation Specialist for the Recreation department.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with special events and programming, lead day and multi‑day trips, instruct outdoor skills classes, and assist in the off‑site training of student trip leaders and facilitators.
Handle scheduling of student staff, staff supervision, student trip leader development, staff evaluation, and community outreach.
Coordinate training and scheduling of student staff and organize community programs and training compliance.
Salary $20 – $25 per hour

Position status: Part‑time
Working hours: 19.5 hours per week
Daily work shift: Not specified
Work arrangement: Fully on‑site (may be eligible for compressed workweek or flex workday schedule)
Payroll designation: PeopleSoft
Terms of appointment: Temporary Staff Appointment – Hourly
Qualifications
Minimum education and experience
– Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience; at least 2 years of relevant experience in outdoor or comparable field.
Certifications/Licenses
– CPR / AED certification; valid driver’s license.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
– Wilderness First Responder and CPR / AED certification.
Preferred qualifications
– Equipment utilized (detail as needed).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as part of normal job duties.
Special Conditions
Safe driving record.
