Purpose The Associate Director is responsible for the innovation and project implementation of the U.S. and Global Banking Market (“GBM”) Treasury team. The incumbent is a direct report to the Director of U.S. Treasury – Strategic Initiatives and Governance and is responsible for leading the planning and execution of initiatives within U.S. Treasury as well as support Enterprise Treasury goals. This position works closely with Treasury senior management, GBM business leaders and a diverse set of stakeholders to deliver on our strategic goals while improving team efficiency.
The incumbent is expected to have a deep knowledge of Treasury processes including an understanding of banking products, funds transfer pricing, funding requirements, liquidity reporting, and interest rate risk.
What You'll Do Lead, plan and ensure end-to-end delivery of complex projects owned by Group Treasury, and represent Group Treasury in projects that have an impact on the group leveraging a mix of technical and business-related knowledge. Accountable to ensure that new initiatives are properly incorporated into Treasury functionality.
Partner with the GBM and U.S. Treasurers to shape and monitor strategic business implementations, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives.
Independently oversee project governance and provide regular status updates to senior leadership, exercising judgement based on complexity of the situation and providing informed recommendations for management decision making.
Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders to become a trusted advisor and strategic partner to GBM in the identification and execution of transformational and /or continuous improvement initiatives.
Operate as the cross-functional business lead for Treasury to drive full suite Treasury solutions leveraging the individuals’ business, technical and Bank knowledge.
Coordinate various working groups and committees which Treasury owns and chairs and produce the presentations, minutes detailing the actions and outcomes of each session.
Ensure that U.S. Treasury frameworks, policies, and procedures meet the expected standards of governance and are consistent with the Enterprise.
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
What You’ll Bring
8+ years’ experience in financial services with exposure to both strategy and project execution.
Undergraduate degree in finance or similar discipline preferred. Non-business degree combined with either the CFA or FRM would be acceptable.
Knowledge of Capital Markets, including major asset classes and their associated trade life cycles.
Strong leadership, strategic thinking and influencing skills required.
Able to work autonomously and solve complex problems in an agile manner.
Exceptional organizational, planning, and execution skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in parallel.
Experience in project management or business analysis, with a track record of delivering results.
Strong analytical skills and excellent ability with MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
