Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist I This role is the entry or developmental level in the Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist series responsible for implementing nuclear power plant performance monitoring processes and procedures designed to ensure safe and efficient operations. Performs routine to moderate work assignments and tasks designed to develop and enhance performance improvement expertise, knowledge and abilities for progression to the next level. Works with more senior level peers to resolve human performance issues and begins to implement the corrective action program. Participates in root‑cause analysis and self‑assessment teams on corrective action cases. This position uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems, receiving instructions and guidance from more senior level roles.

The Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist I is responsible for assisting with the coordination of the station human performance program; identifying, evaluating, and reporting human performance trends and events, and developing and implementing improvement when required, working closely with department human performance coordinators. Provides support to the corrective action program; assists station personnel with the assignment and use of the corrective action process. Ensures that assignments have been adequately addressed and are in accordance with policies and procedures; creates and distributes human performance‑related communications (e.g., newsletters, presentations). Supports the coordination of the station work observation program and helps maintain the station self‑assessment and benchmark program. Assists with informal and formal self‑assessments and benchmark activities at the site and fleet‑wide as needed. With guidance, helps coordinate the self‑evaluation program. Maintains the station’s operating experience program and coordinated review of industry operating experience. May work with subject matter experts to assist in the preparation of industry operating experience reports. May assist more experienced staff with the coordination and hosting of INPO webcasts; maintains station and department key performance indicators, collect data, begin to analyze and identify trends. Perform various administrative duties as required by the department.

Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist II This level is responsible for maintaining the corrective action program and assisting station personnel in its use with guidance as needed. Duties include assigning corrective actions, monitoring progress, and ensuring assignments have adequately addressed conditions adverse to quality. Screens condition reports to determine significance. Performs corrective action trending and initiates corrective actions based on the identified trends. Coordinates the station human performance program; identifying, evaluating, and reporting human performance trends and events, and developing and implementing improvement when required. Collects and analyzes human performance data for metrics, performance indicators, and recommendations for corrective action when adverse trends are identified. Assists in the monitoring and mentoring of the department human performance coordinators. Responsible for the coordination of the station work observation program. Creates and distributes human performance‑related communications (e.g., newsletters, presentations) and maintains the station self‑assessment and benchmark program. Conducts and assists in informal and formal self‑assessments and benchmark activities at the site and fleet‑wide as necessary. Coordinates the self‑evaluation program and is responsible for preparing the station’s self‑evaluation meeting presentations. Maintains the station operating experience program and coordinates the review of industry operating experience. Works closely with subject matter experts in preparation of industry operating experience reports, and coordinates and hosts INPO webcasts and INPO activities on site as needed. Maintains the station and department’s key performance indicators, collects data, and analyzes and identifies trends.

Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist III The senior level of a three‑level series, the Nuclear Performance Improvement Specialist III is responsible for developing and implementing nuclear power plant performance monitoring processes and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation. Develops and recommends improvements in solving human performance issues and performance improvement processes. Implements corrective action programs and participates in and/or facilitates root‑cause analysis and self‑assessment teams on corrective action cases. Applies in‑depth knowledge of performance monitoring processes, procedures to solve complex problems. May lead projects or project steps within a broader project or have accountability for ongoing activities or objectives. Serves as a resource for colleagues with less experience, to determine significance and level of effort for adverse station conditions, including in‑depth working knowledge of Operating Experience process and interface with 10CFR21. This position works closely with management as the champion of the corrective actions process to ensure adverse conditions and trends are discovered and acted upon in a timely manner.

Responsible for maintaining the corrective action program including screening of condition reports and determining significance. Assigns corrective actions, monitors progress and ensures assignments have adequately addressed adverse conditions. Performs corrective action trending and initiates corrective actions based on the identified trends. Coordinates the station human performance program; identifying, evaluating, and reporting human performance trends and events, and developing and implementing improvement when required. Collects and analyzes human performance data for metrics, performance indicators, and develops recommendations for corrective action when adverse trends are identified. Mentors the department human performance coordinators and monitors trends across departments, coordinates the station’s work observation program, and creates and distributes human performance‑related communications (e.g., newsletters, presentations). Maintains the station self‑assessment and benchmark program, conducts informal and formal self‑assessments and benchmark activities at the site and fleet‑wide as necessary. Coordinates the self‑evaluation program, including the station’s self‑evaluation meeting presentations. Maintains the station operating experience program and coordinates the review of industry operating experience. Works closely with subject matter experts in preparation of industry operating experience reports, coordinates and hosts INPO webcasts and INPO activities on site as needed. Maintains station and department key performance indicators, collects data, and analyzes and identifies trends.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

0–2 years of relevant experience in a directly related field, with a preferred bachelor’s degree. (In lieu of a preferred related bachelor’s degree, may substitute related associate’s degree with 2+ years of related experience or high school diploma/GED with 4+ years of related experience.)

Some knowledge of nuclear plant systems and operations; knowledge of human performance fundamentals desired.

Ability to gain working knowledge of the corrective action system database.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Fluent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Good organizational and basic project‑management skills, with a drive to help others work safely, efficiently, and be results‑driven.

Prior experience with conflict resolution and work observation skills desirable, but not required.

Strong analytical and abstract thinking skills.

Questioning attitude and problem‑solving mindset.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare reports, develop technical writing, and process information quickly.

Completion of root‑cause training class required.

2+ years of directly related/relevant technical nuclear experience (preferred bachelor’s degree) or equivalent combinations as noted.

Skilled in conflict resolution and work observation.

Ability to function as a team player and work well in a team environment.

Education Requirements Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
