
Labor Relations Specialist

Position Summary
This position is responsible for assisting with labor relations, including contract administration for faculty and staff. The Labor Relations Specialist serves as a specialist to the Manager of Labor Relations in the administration of six labor agreements, including faculty; supervisory and managerial; ProTech; administrative support; maintenance and operational; and public safety officers. The Specialist is also responsible for creating a positive impression of Human Resources and Mott Community College by providing excellent customer service and resolving routine matters presented by customers. The Specialist works collaboratively with other members of Human Resources to appropriately serve the College’s employees. Supervisory Responsibility
The Labor Relations Specialist may occasionally provide supervision of work‑study students and/or temporary employees for specific projects. Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of two years of experience as a Human Resources generalist, Labor Relations Specialist, or in a comparable role with direct union interaction. At least two years of experience interpreting and administering contract language. Strong knowledge of employment laws, particularly the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Ability to acquire and synthesize new knowledge that translates to improved operational effectiveness and competencies that support the position’s necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Degree must be conferred by offer date. Desirable Qualifications
Additional experience beyond the minimum requirements. Certificate in Labor Relations. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Must move about both inside the office and at locations where interviews and meetings are conducted. Frequently operate a computer for extended periods of time. Frequently communicate with others over the phone and in person; must exchange accurate information in these situations. Ability to speak clearly and communicate proficiently in English. Work Schedule
Full‑time; 52 weeks per year. In addition to regular business hours, the Specialist must be flexible around the needs of the College, which includes occasional evening and/or weekend hours. The College uses two work modes: on‑site (100% physically at a College worksite) and hybrid (time split between remote and on‑site). All new hires must be able to work in a hybrid mode while the College operates under a hybrid work plan and must be able to work on‑site in a full‑time capacity if/when the College transitions to a full‑time on‑site work model. This position may work in a hybrid or on‑site model based on the needs of the College and as assigned by the immediate supervisor. These modes are subject to change. Equal Opportunity Statement
