Employee Relations Manager
The Employee Relations Manager fosters a positive workplace by managing policies, resolving conflicts, conducting investigations into grievances, and advising on labor laws. Reporting to the Sr Director, HR Business Partnership, this role ensures legal compliance and promotes a culture of fairness, guiding leadership to maintain high engagement. The ideal candidate is strong in conflict resolution, mediation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Conflict Resolution & Mediation: Act as the primary point of contact for employee grievances, disputes, and workplace conflicts.
Investigations & Advisement: Conduct thorough, objective investigations into allegations of misconduct, harassment, or policy violations; prepare detailed reports and guidance on solutions; advise management and HR Business Partners on performance management, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
Policy Development & Compliance: Create, implement, and enforce company policies, handbooks, and codes of conduct in adherence to federal and state labor laws.
Employee Engagement & Labor Relations: Participate in the Engagement Survey process; support data analysis and recommendation of action plans; monitor workplace culture and provide guidance for morale and retention strategies; design and maintain the company’s engagement and labor relations strategies.
Training: Work with Learning and Development to create training materials and resources for union awareness initiatives, respectful workplace practices, employee engagement best practices for leadership, compliance, safety, security and risk, and employee relations and performance management; update materials as needed; train HR Business Partners on training leadership on engagement and union awareness.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Psychology or related field required.
5+ years of experience in HR, with specific experience in employee relations, labor relations, and/or employment law.
SHRM (SHRM‑SCP, SHRM‑CP) or HRCI (SPHR or PHR) certifications preferred.
Strong conflict resolution, mediation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Detail and results oriented.
Deep understanding of employment legislation in the US (e.g., EEO, FMLA, ADA, ADEA).
Success Measures
Reduction of turnover rates.
Increased engagement scores.
Union activity avoidance.
Speed/efficiency of dispute resolution.
